| Abbey Road. Yet again. My personal favourite Beatles album, and one of the best records ever recorded. IMO. Sure, Sgt Pepper was more influential (the most influential ever), Rubber Soul more groundbreaking, and Revolver more vital and thrilling, but Abbey Road, somehow despite the rancour that existed within the band, finds the four remembering the simple joy of making music together but utilising the skills that their musical journey had taught them. Infused with a golden glow, but also shot through with regret and the feeling that this was it. The end. A beautifully poignant record that actually finishes with the whole band jamming together gloriously, then wrapping the song up with "And in the end, the love you get is equal to the love you give" played out with the loveliest Harrison lead guitar. Except Abbey Road actually ends with the little joke of "Her Majesty". Whether by accident or design, it is the perfect ending to the greatest band.
Sorry to go on, but I love this album.

| A Monday morning Waterboys medley. Nothing original, just all the greats from the "big music" + Fisherman's Blues era - "Church...", "Red Army Blues", the utterly epic "A Pagan Place" and "This Is The Sea", and the chilling "Old England" etc. The early albums sound great if a bit dated, but "This Is The Sea" is still in my top ten 80s albums I think, and the band where frighteningly good and vital as a live act then as well. Bloody brilliant.
Anyone seen Mike Scott recently - boy does he look old! I know it was a long time ago since those 80s heydays (too long) but even so I was shocked when I saw him on TV recently. He's only 53!

| I love The Waterboys. I saw them a couple of times in the late 80's/ early 90's and they were great. 'This is the Sea' is one of my favourite albums. I noticed that they are touring next year, I might make the effort and go and see them.

| White Winter Hymnal - Fleet Foxes
Hearing this song nearly 3 years ago got be totally into a new genre of music - folk tinged melodic pop songs - Midlake, Bon Iver, Real Estate to name but a few.
Brilliant stuff. | |
