| I have on Dream Theater's Acoustic Dreams. I'm not a fan, but I'm listening anyway. They're not bad. | |

| Who? The Deep Freeze Mice What? A Trillion Sprods Where From? I Love You Little Bo Bo with Your Delicate Golden Lions (double L.P.) (1984) Why? Because I've been enjoying Late of The Pier's album, but certain aspects of it kept giving me a nagging sense of deja vu. It then occurred to me that mad indie with proggy overtones was a little like the Deep Freeze Mice, so I pulled out the only album I have of them and reminded myself of how much fun it was/is. A Trillion Sprods is the 13 minute epic!
P.S. Sounds nothing like Late of The Pier. DFM have got tons of imagination and an ear for a tune, but suffer from a) being average musicians (particularly the percussion) and b) having about 50p to spend on production - not so much raw as rather thin and insubstantial sounding. There are some minor gems though.

I was complaining yesterday about the lack of good Christmas songs... could this change that? I have on Blur's Think Tank. It's grand!

We have an ancient tape of random shite in our equally ancient car, and whenever we put it on my son (who's not even 3 yet) demands that we play Waterfall. I'm impressed with his musical taste, earlier on The Wonder Stuff's "Don't Let Me Down" came on the radio and he said "I like this one!" and started dancing round the living room. Anyway, just listened to Flying White Dots' new album 3D - I hate the terms "mashup" and "chillout" so I'm just going to say that this is an Orb-influenced sample collage featuring Portishead, Radiohead, The Beatles, Mazzy Star, Carly Simon, DJ Shadow, and Peter Gabriel's "Red Rain". Available here.

| What? Got To Get Away Who? Easy Star All Stars Where From? Until That Day EP Why? Reggae/Dub - not a genre I listen to a lot, but ESAS make the sweetest music. Listening to this whilst the sleet is falling from the grey skies and I can feel the sun on my back and can't keep a smile from my face. What else can I say? (Ironically they're based in NYC so probably have worse weather than here in the UK).
Easy Star All Stars are best known for their critically acclaimed cover albums - Dub Side Of The Moon & Radiodread - if you have not heard those I can wholeheartedly recommend them. "Until That Day" is an EP of original material though, and it's good stuff!
