| Welcome, Pauline, from another oldie, but one who has problems getting my kids to appreciate good music. The very mention of Elbow just gets this kind of reaction: . My family are from Mansfield originally, so I feel an affinity with Robin Hood Country too. :-) | |

Hi there. My daughter keeps me well informed of 'good' music to listen to. I am sooo close to Sherwood Forest so know Mansfield well. Always on the look out for good gigs at Sherwood Pines Forest. Crowded House last year. Off to see Doves at Delemare Forest soon with my daughter. She lives in Warrington so I'm often over there to see bands in Manchester.

| Hi everyone! You seem like a friendly bunch so I think I'll hang around for a bit, it that's all right with you. I'm married with two lively teenage boys and a husband who should know better. We also share the home with a three year old Irish Setter that I think has more sense than the lot of them put together! i'm a relative newcomer to all things Elbow but for the past year, SSK has not been far from the hi-fi and I've enjoyed every minute of it. I've just got round to buying a copy of LOTFW so I look forward to getting to know all those songs too. Speak to you all again soon. Lesley | |

| I agree! Bring it on. When you hit 40, you can impress the youngsters with your huge bank of accumalted crap that you carry around in your noggin' and the body isn't yet decrepit enough to hold you back from doing what you want to do. It is the perfect age. Although it is depressing when your 21 year old friend says "Who's George Harrison?" and the Pink Panther is Steve Martin. I shall never forgive them for re-making one of my all time favourite films. | |

| I find it quite amusing that as a boss I go to far more gigs and have more escapades than my younger colleagues who seem to be quite bemused when I dash off early to get to a venue for doors opening.
I'm also quite astounded by their lack of general knowledge at music. When I were a lass in the 80s, we'd be able to identify and quite often sing along to chart 60s music and most of 70s stuff, especially if you had an older sibling or friends with older siblings! This generation knows absolutely nothing about music released before they attended secondary school. I often have conversations like:
Them: Who is it tonight? Me: Chris Difford - he was in Squeeze. Them: Who? Me: Squeeze - Cool for Cats, Up the Junction? Them: Blank look Me: <starts singing one of them> Come On! Glen Tilbrook, Jools Holland. You've heard of Jools Holland surely. Them: They guy from the BBC? Was he in a band? Me: <walks away muttering about the youth of today>
The ultimate put down they give me is usually "but that's before I was born".....

| Exactly! I started buying records in the early 80's and then, there was something for everybody. Ska, post punk, heavy metal, pop etc. But now, the kids want it label themselves and cut themselves off from so many possiblities. I used to work with two teenagers that believed anything that they didn't listen to was crap or not worth considering. One listened to nothing but American guitar bands and the other was into thrash. It has improved over the past coulple of years with the death of boy and girl bands and there's some real talent out there now. Franz Ferdinand are going to annouce some U.K tour dates on Friday and I think I'll try to get some tickets, if any one is interested. | |

| Hi...I just found this site a couple of weeks ago. It's nice to see so many people with exquisite musical taste. I am in Seattle, Washington. It is frustrating here in the States that Elbow is considered such an obscure band. It's nice to have a cool little secret, but the probability of them touring here is low. So, here I am to connect with others that are as moved by the genius of this music as I am. I am a recent fan...and I listening to this music makes me feel like a teenager again. | |

Hi there rascal! I'm a fellow frustrated US Elbow fan, so I feel your pain! I've been lucky enough to see them in Chicago last year, and I have tickets to their show in Atlanta this August. But I've been a fan for years and have been kinda lonely over here! Glad to see you've found this forum and I'm sure you'll have fun here!

| Thank you all. I feel much better now. I swear, I have offered cuts and vids of the band to my friends and the reception has been lukewarm. I am perplexed. I first heard "Bones Of You" on our alterna station, KEXP and (was blown away...reminded of Peter Gabriel and Peter Murphy) immediately got Seldom Seen Kid...I am now savoring Leaders Of The Free World. I just cannot get enough. The most well rounded (lyrics and music) I have heard in a long LONG time. Unfortunately Atlanta is just too far for me. Maybe they will visit Seattle sometime...in case they get homesick for the weather they have at home. | |
