| I'll do this cuz it seems like a fun game but I'm of the opinion that albums should stay the way they are, as the artist intended. Best Ofs are generally evil bastardizations 1. Any Day Now 2. Fugitive Motel 3. Grounds for Divorce 4. Great Expectations 5. Some Riot 6. The Loneliness of a Tower Crane Driver 7. Mirrorball 8. Can't Stop 9. Switching Off 10. Bitten by the Tailfly 11. Newborn 12. Scattered Black and Whites Yeah, I think that'd be pretty cool. Too many vital songs lost, though =| Original point - best ofs are evil. | |

| Best Ofs are like the England Football team...getting all the best together doesn't necessarily result in harmony | |

| Gotta be honest and give credit for the analogy to Frank Skinner, and it was the other way round when he said it. | |

| Ooh i like this: (First post by the way, hi ) Station Approach Red Bones of You Powder Blue Bitten By the Tailfly Switching Off The Stops Tower Crane Driver Newborn Great Expectations Mirrorball Scattered Black and Whites Bah hard to do actually, so many lovely tracks left out. I think this is better than a typical best of, as they don't usually (as i've seen) give any thought to track order. | |

| I was going to make a thread like this - but with the proviso you'd have to pick a track 1 (Any Day Now / Ribcage / Station Approach / Starlings) to be your first track, a track 2 for your second, and so on. Excluding bonus tracks (AITB! Oh no!) you get 11 lots of 4 songs to choose from... and as the example there shows, it sure ain't easy! I'll get back to you with my choices | |

Good choice BTW Thanks, hi Will do, i like your 2-sided vinyl idea, i might have to think up a concept album, i've been making elbow playlists for my friends lately to introduce them, and there's so much you can do it's fantastic. I like the idea of one that builds to a big multi-song climax in the middle and then trails off, i'll have to give it some thought

| I'm gonne re-do mine, because I first did it when I had only just got into Elbow. So, now I'm a weathered fan; here I go... 1) Ribcage 2) Bones Of You 3) Leaders Of The Free World 4) Mirrorball 5) An Imagined Affair 6) Coming Second 7) Fugitive Motel 8 ) Station Approach 9) The Loneliness Of A Tower Crane Driver 10) Great Expectations (Puncture Repair) 11)One Day Like This 12) Grace Under Pressure ... 2 minute gap ... - Friend Of Ours Yeh I cheated a little bit. But I'm sorry Great Expectations and Puncture Repair were MADE to go together. and, loads of albums leave a gap at the end and have a hidden track. I suppose that really its just my feeble attempt to try and cram in more songs; because i feel as though I've made this far to difficult with only 12 tracks. I keep looking at what I've chose, and thinking that there's stuff I've missed. Ah well. *leave it now Leo, leave it!* EDIT: If you do an 8 with a bracket infront of it you get a chap with sunglasses, so I've had to leave a gap | |

| Ha! Ha! - I thought I was seeing things the other night when I did my list and couldn't get rid of the bloody sunglasses smilie! I just left the bracket out in the end | |

| You'll need way more than 12 songs, I'm thinking 20:
Any Day Now Red* Powder Blue Asleep In The Back Can't Stop or Coming Second Ribcage* Fugitive Motel* Not A Job Grace Under Pressure* Station Approach* Picky Bugger Forget Myself Leaders Of The Free World* My Very Best Great Expectations* Starlings* Bones Of You* Mirrorball (the intro)* Grounds For Divorce* An Audience With The Pope One Day Like This* The Fix Friend Of Ours
That's 23, those noted are the twelve who would be my picks.

| For reference purposes, this was the iTunes Essentials "The Basics" Elbow playlist. (It's no longer available on iTunes for some reason.) I'll note after the list its essential problem: - Grounds for Divorce
- One Day Like This
- Newborn
- Not a Job
- Mirrorball
- Red
- Fallen Angel
- Scattered Black and Whites
- The Bones of You
- Fugitive Motel
- Switching Off
- Grace Under Pressure
What's missing? Anything from Leaders of the Free World. And, for kicks, this was the iTunes "Next Steps" compilation: - Asleep in the Back
- Ribcage
- Any Day Now
- Powder Blue
- Snowball
- Loss
- Some Riot
- Coming Second
- Starlings
- Buttons and Zips
- Snooks (Progress Report)
- The Fix
- I've Got Your Number
- Red (Acoustic Version)
Again, no Leaders. *shrug* I'll put my thinking cap on and distill a 12-track "Essentials" compilation. It can go with the B-sides compilation I sequenced a few months ago.
