Easy to dislike Oasis, but there's something about those first two albums...
I played this at a party of mainly 30 and 40 somethings a few weeks ago. It was 2AM, and everyone was a bit jaded but as soon as those opening chords boomed from the speakers everyone, and I mean everyone, was up and swaying about, bellowing at the top of their voices.
As boozy cameraderie goes it was pretty touching. I agree totally mate - They were the soundtrack for my mid to late 20's.....

| The Burns Unit: Side Show. Missed it when it came out last year. Folky and ballady, yet also rocky (some proper riffs on Blood, Ice and Ashes) this album is a collaborative effort that sounds very much like a full blown band. Hip-hop, occasional eastern flavours and even warped waltz (very like the Triffids) is mixed in with the alt-folk blend, as is a very immediate sense of pop melody. Some of the songs are darkly brooding, others joyful, and while not quite everything works, the varied styles do manage to come together as a cohesive whole. Cracking stuff. - HattyMarris wrote:

| A couple of newish things I'm listening to:
Fucked Up – David Comes To Life. Punk rock opera? Concept album? F*** yes, and more. Think of Husker Du mixed with a bucketload of The Who, a dash of Green Day and seasoned with the Foo Fighters. Damian Abraham's growled vocals are an aquired taste, sure, and taken in one sitting the whole 80 minutes leaves you feeling a bit battered, but this is an immense record.
White Denim - D At times they sound as if they could have been timewarped from the 70's, reminding me of The Grateful Dead or Beefheart but more jazzy, less bluesy. Like Traffic? Even Steely Dan?? Or Ryan Adams. See - the album should be all over the place. There's shimmering country-pop, jazz grooves, strings, dual guitars with snaking solos, Vampire Weekend type rhythms, indie pop songs, a bit of heavy rock, flutes, sweet vocals, kitchen sinks, the lot! The fact that this all mostly hangs together to form a coherent album that doesn't actually sound in the least anachronistic is genius.

| Heroes. A oft listened to fave on the K-pod.
Incidentally I was listening to Battles latest last night and Mrs K hated it, saying it was the sort of music that The Terminator listened to. I like Battles, but this made me laugh. I can see what she means.
