| Hey - maybe I'm just an uncultured swine here, but I'm a little foggy on some of the lyrics (as usual).
This coming specifically from "Honey Sun": what's a 'ringpip'? Also, who is Burton Taylor? I think because I'm based in the US, some of these references are over my head, sad to say.
'Profligate as de rigueur' is confusing, too, but at least my dictionary knows what the individual bits mean...

its not a who, its a what... the context is "She and I were for a Burton Taylor made" - Burton's are\were a high street clothes shop where you can buy off the peg suits - made for the masses stuff...

| Tailor = best fit
Gone for a Burton comes from "Going for a Beer". During the Second World War it was used in black humour when someone died in battle. Usually the RAF.
the romance between actress and actor, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton is still regarded as one of the most passionate of all time.
de rigueur was used as it rhymed with me and her.
Ringpip ...a wedding ring that you show off?
Blanket of night reminds me of the original acoustic Brambles before it became Some Riot.
Only heard odd tracks that have been released and not the full album yet, but Fly boy blue/ lunette, still is the stand out track for me.

| still waiting for mine.......maybe tomorrow. although - i've mixed initial reactions on first skip through the online one. I normally instantly love elbow tracks but there are one or two here that I don't.... gulp. there i said it.... hope its a grower. Edit - Ok i'm back on board. 2nd listen much better for the couple of tracks I wasn't so sure on. Listenting on a better sound system now. My smartphone sound quality is far too tinny - think thats why i was struggling with a couple. Still hate that bloody saxophone on Fly Boy Blue though lol.

| Still waiting!! Just listened to the xfm interview. I think I've been spoiled with the acoustic version of the blanket of night which I can't stop playing. The album version I'm really unsure about but on the whole really liking what I'm hearing. Looking forward to the post tomorrow. | |

| Completely agree... Also been playing over and over. The live acoustic version is stunning, the album version is not as good. | |

Holy crap, Guy's voice is at it's peak on this album.

| There's an interesting mondegreen in the chorus to "This Blue World." The first line of the chorus, per the liner notes, reads: - Quote :
- When all the world is sucking on its sleeve
What I've heard, and thought the lyric was, was this: - Quote :
- When all the world is sloughing off its sleep
"Sloughing" is an obscure word that means "shedding." And in context, the mondegreen seems to fit. I took Guy to mean that twilight moment between sleep and wakefulness, when you're somewhere between dream and reality. And given the song's final verse, it made sense to me. I love that song so much. It describes the place I feel like I am right now. Wish the acoustic version up on Amazon UK were available to American fans.

| That first track is an excellent tune as a whole - I like most what Mark's doing in this one. Very cool melodies afoot. - allyngibson wrote:

| First listen impressions, not an immediate album for me, but still some very interesting elements and ideas on here, highlights for me would be This Blue World (which I think is going to slowly grow into YET another stunning opener for me), Charge, NYM obviously, Honey Sun (with such a heavenly and addictive chorus) and the title track which is magnificent. I think it'll be a slow-burning grower for me, will have to see whether I like it more than BARB. | |
