I thought it would be fun to have a thread where we can post some or our favourite lyrics, whether they strike a chord in you, move you, make you laugh, or you just like them for no apparent reason at all, which happens.

Wasn't sure if it would fit best in "other bands", or here. Anyway.

There's a lot of lyrics I love...one I just heard today is from Teardrop (by Massive Attack, and Elbow have covered it as well). The opening line is, "Love, love is a verb/Love is a doing word". Something people tend to forget sometimes!

Nice call lee...XTC never pulls a punch lyrically. The whole of Dear God is pretty exceptional as well, I think.

I just found out that I like the new Death Cab For Cutie album, much to my surprise. The lyrics are pretty good across the board, but here's one that stuck with me (from the track You Can Do Better Than Me):

It just occurred to me that "August & September" (which was always one of my favourite songs before I heard the Elbow cover) always reminds me of splitting up with my first girlfriend when I was 19.
