- Well tonight I'm off to see Jimi Goodwin live in Hebden Bridge on the second date of his warm up tour for the Elbow arena tour.
Last night in York, he played 3 Doves songs, 'Snowden' 'Lost Souls' & 'Last Broadcast'.
Can't wait to hear Jimi's album in full when it's released in 3 -4 weeks, but tonight I'm incredibly excited - just love Doves and have heard some of Jimi's solo tunes and they are great. What was jimi's gig like?? OK bud - the gig was excellent.
Trades Club is a brilliant and very friendly venue ; just 190 it holds and it was full.
Played the above 3 songs from Doves, which were an utter joy ; his solo stuff is ace, most songs all very different from each other ; 'Terracotta Warrior' was the opener, a really heavy grungy (don't lose me, now) intro and then the song takes off beautifully, my favourite.....'Man v Dingo' will take a bit of getting used, quite a dancey opening to that one. The setlist just ebbed and flowed fantastically. 'Didsbury Girl' I've heard for quite a while now and adore it.
All in all, Jimi was in fine fettle and I've bought tickets for his Manchester gig in May, just this morning.
Fantastic! He's playing a little venue in newcastle in may so i've purchased tickets already... sounds great, i don't mind grungy! if you've got things like dancey & grungy in one review its fair to say its a real mix of sounds on the new album then? is the song that 6music are playing the most doves like song? as i maintain its merely a safe extension of the doves sound? is he playing the 6music festival this weekend? his stuff may get on the radio then? sadly my weekend is being taken up with the glorious triumphal win for Sunderland over Citeh on Sunday, so my attentions are diverted else where currently...

| He's playing 6Music today in Manchester mate yes - but didn't get tickets - from what I heard, I wouldn't say it was merely an extension of the Doves sound, I'd say it's different - there were the usual shouts of 'Cedar Tree' & 'Sub Sub' from the punters ! Jimi smiled them all away, ha !
Don't mention the final mate, VERY sore point - got a ticket but I'm dying with viral conjunctivitis and sold my ticket this morning - feel utterly rubbish.
Up The Blues !

i'll stick iplayer in this afternoon and see if i can hear what he's got on offer... can't wait for the liverpool echo arena gig now, this will be (in my opinion) their best support act since alfie played with them at brixton academy.
unlucky mate, tickets are gold dust on wearside so i'll be watching us get humiliated on the national stage from home as well... im sure seeing Kompany lift the trophy will take your mind of things, the impending release of the new elbow album plus a shed load of beer will hopefully numb the pain for me, just as long as it isnt the cricket score im expecting...
good luck! | |

Correct mate - he's great live, bought tickets for the Gorilla, Manchester date which is long sold out. His band are a nice bunch of lads aswell, my best mate is the drummer Bo's cousin ; yet he stil couldn't get us a jib back stage in Liverpool ! Really diverse the album, think it's a great listen !

Really diverse the album, think it's a great listen ! the drummer is a character mind... we were giggling at the expressions on his face during the gig on Saturday, really expressing his playing thru some of his gurnning... in a good way i may add!!!!

| Saw Jimi again at Gorilla in Manchester along with a sold out and VERY sweaty 500 devotees, on Monday night just gone.
He was in fine fettle and very funny - played all the album barring 'Hope' & Northenden, Sulphur Man, Last Broadcast & Snowden from Doves' back catalogue.
His final song was a repeat of 'Live like a river' where he invited some crowd to have a dance on stage with the band ; I was like a rat up a drainpipe and bombed it on - the stage was that small that security could only allow 5 fans on ! took me back to the Academy gig around 2000 where a load of us were on stage for 'Spaceface' !
A brilliant, brilliant night.
