| That Guardian reviewer clearly knows Julian Casablancarse or whatever his name is. Some major brown-nosing going on in that article. The hyperbole they use is just laughable...'inventive guitars'!? 'world changing moment'!? 'Rewriting the Velvet Underground' has got to be taking the piss surely? Musical AND visual debt!? So of the bands they allegedly influenced one no longer exists and the other two will be long forgotten come 2020 except at shite student discos and flat parties with people air-guitaring along and singing every word trying to impress girls. It's music for people who don't like music... Next? | |

Nice one Ted It's all good stuff... Radiohead, Strokes, Doves, Jesca, Death Cab, Velvets, Wilco etc etc X 100. We don't have to like all of it (that's the beauty of music) but most of the stuff that gets discussed on this forum is bloody great compared with the rest of the industry. There's nothing wrong with debate, I've been sticking up for my favourite bands and albums for 40 years (It was Slade V Osmonds when I was a lad). My favourite bands ever have been early Genesis, early REM and Elbow and I can't understand why everyone doesn't agree! We normally go out on Saturday night but I'm doing this and mrs sparky is watching celebrity jungle

Makes Oasis v Blur pale in to insignificance then I've really struggled to come up with a list that represents the naughties. So I havent ! I would personally have The Strokes in there, but not necesserily at number 1. Its all too subjective though, at least it stimulates debate.

| The Guardian's top ten was...
1. The Streets - Original Pirate Material 2. Radiohead - Kid A 3. Arctic Monkeys - Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not 4. The Strokes - Is This It 5. Arcade Fire - Funeral 6. Amy Winehouse - Back to Black 7. The White Stripes - Elephant 8. Jay-Z - The Black Album 9. Salif Keita - Moffou 10. Burial - Untrue
The Seldom Seen Kid was number 35. One Day Like This was number 38 in their Tracks of the Decade list.

| It is very difficult indeed to narrow it down to top 20 let alone 10.
Arctic Monkeys for me had the biggest impact of the decade. While I think their latest record sees them at their most comfortable within their proverbial music skin, the first album gave music a kick up the backside. Saying we are not going to allow people like Jonny Borell to dumn down music. And more importantly for me we are not going to allow lyrical content to suffer in exchange for a catchy song along’anthem’. I hate it when people say “. I wrote that in 5 minutes” and you can tell. Alex Turners lyrics are fantastic. It is effortless for him. It has developed of course but that first album matched the hype and more for me.
The Strokes has seen the forum divided. I suppose music is all about opinions. There are people out there that don’t like Elbow and there are people who believe Glasvegas are a good band for example. But Is This is a top, top buzzing album.
Anyway, I will try and compose my top 10 list. In no particular order:
Arctic Monkeys – WTSIATWIN Elbow – Leaders of The Free World Elbow – SSK Radiohead – In Rainbows The Strokes – Is This It Arcade Fire – Funeral Courteeners – St Jude The National - Boxer Black Rebel MotorCycle Club – B.R.M.C K.O.L – Youth and Young Manhood
I know I am probably alone in including the Courteeners. I doubt they have much of a following on here but these are my favourite albums. I really wanted to include Jamie T, Libertines and Fleet Foxes but ran out of space
