OK guys, so everyone is doing best of the decade polls, but what do you make of this year in music?
I have not been overly blown away by it, but what have been your favourite albums?

Fever Ray - Fever Ray Super Furry Animals - Dark Days/Light Years Doves - Kingdom of Rust Moderat - Moderat
were the standout albums for me this year - or at least the albums that I revisited again and again. The Doves one was a lovely surprise as I hadn't been a fan previously. Also enjoyed the Royksopp album, particularly 'Girl and the Robot', my favourite single of 2009.
I've actually listened to more new music this year than at any time since the late 90s, largely thanks to being able to Spotify albums at work. Still not nearly enough though...

Agreed. I don't think there's been a single album out this year that I've loved. The five best though were probably...
Jamie T - Kings and Queens Slow Club - Yeah, So Doves - Kingdom of Rust The XX - The XX Girls - Album

Not a great year in my opinion either. Haven't actually bought that much 'new' this year. Probably Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Hmmm, probably the ones I listened to the most were the Avett Brothers (I And Love And You), Wilco (the Album), Antony and the Johnsons (The Crying Light), A.C. Newman (Get Guilty), and Daniel Johnston (Is And Always Was).

Yep, for me it's Doves - Kingdom of Rust as well. Pretty poor year apart from that, except for the late appearance of Jesca Hoop's new album Hunting My Dress which is also amazing !!!

The Decemberists - Hazards of Love.
Noah and the Whale - The First Days of Spring
Mumford and Sons - Sigh No More
Duckworth Lewis Method - Duckworth Lewis Method
Love all four for different reasons
For 2010 I'm looking forward to the new albums by Kris Drever and I Am Kloot .

The Decemberists - The Hazards Of Love was the outstanding LP of the year for me, restored my faith in "proper" concept albums.
The Leisure Society - The Sleeper was my only other big LP of the year, I agree with some of you that this year has been a bit flat. Maybe we were spoiled by 2008 eh?
Anyway, this clip is wonderful, how has it had so few views

Another voice for The Leisure Society's The Sleeper. It's just fantastic. Really, anything they've done this year (the A Product of the Ego Drain EP, the cover of George Harrison's "Something" for Mojo) has been awesome.

snap ..I love that ...often to be found on repeat in this house! Can't say I'd put 2009 down as a vintage year for music . Fave albums 'Kingdom of Rust ..Doves' and 'In this light and on this evening' Editors . Also loved Duckworth Lewis Method and finding Passion Pit . The new Muse album untimately disappointed me ,which I'm sad about because I'd so looked forward to it but Undisclosed Desires I think just gets my fave song of the year with Editors 'Papillon' and 'Kingdom of Rust' close seconds .

Not the best year ever but my favourites were:
The Unthanks - Here's The Tender Coming Cribs - Ignore The Ignorant Richmond Fontaine - We Used To Think The Freeway Sounded Like A River Doves - Kingdom Of Rust
I also liked albums from Leisure Society, Bat For Lashes, Noah And The Whale, Wilco and Arctic Monkeys.
Finally, for those of you (and I know there's a few on here) who like Leisure Society type stuff, have a listen to "Letters To Lenore" and "Lullaby" on the following site:

Definitely The Decemberists - Hazards of Love for me too. Closely followed by: Steven R Smith - Cities (does anyone else know Steven R Smith/Hala Strana? Wonderful atmospheric intrumental music) Jesca Hoop - Hunting My Dress The Builders & the Butchers - Salvation is a Deep Dark Well The Cave Singers - Welcome Joy PJ Harvey & John Parish - A Woman A Man Walked By Bat For Lashes - Two Suns Kristin Hersh - Bliss (released track by track on her Cashmusic site over the year)
Plus many more... actually 2009 has been a good year musically for me.

Arctic Monkeys - Humbug...I didn't expect to love it so much, but I became completely obsessed with it, played it 10 times a day...they are growing up rapidly
