| So, the nominees are announced later this morning. Who is your tip to steal Elbow's crown? Who deserves it? Who doesn't?
My money will be on Lily Allen.

| I thought Doves were basically nailed on for this ..or they should be ...and every other prize going simply for the Jodrell Bank 'gig' ..coolest thing ever! | |

I'd be suprised if they went for something as similar to Elbow for the winner again this year.

| I've heard that La Roux or Little Boots may be nominated! PLEASE GOD NOOOOOO! I hope that the winner is worthy and not because of the hype machine. | |

| I have the feeling that this is going to be one of those years where the judges try to go all "yoof" on us. I reckon they'll go for: -Some obscure left-field "grime" Dizzee Rascal type. -La Roux and/or Little Boots'll probably be lurking around in there somewhere. -Lily Allen can go to hell in a handcart. - Doves, but they probably won't win due to perceived similarities with Elbow. - Maccabees or something similar. Throw in an obscure folky and a string quartet and there you go | |

| I think Bat for Lashes might get a nod. Doves I want with all my heart to gain the prize but I doubt it will happen. Kasabian, Manics, Glasvegas. I would like The Horrors and Leisure Society to crack a mention too but I doubt it! | |

| Doves - almost guaranteed to be nominated. Will they win? Personally I think they are too much like Elbow to get the nod, and to be frank the album is not even in the same universe as TSSK, is it? Seem like good lads though, so good luck to them.
Bat For Lashes - a good shout IMO
Little Boots, La Roux, Florence and t'machine, Noisettes (which is OK actually) - I'd be amazed if at least 2 of these don't make the list.
Lily Allen - unfortunately
Speech Debelle - the urban "social commentry" selection maybe.
Kasabian have got to be contenders, and the Horrors seem to be well thought of (not really heard much yet so can't comment)
Overated "all style no substance" (IMO) choices - White Lies and the sub JAMC Glasvegas.
The "old hands who deserve recognition" nomination will be the Manics - and a fine choice that would be, although I see SFA are 40-1, and I will surprise no-one by saying "I would luv it, just luv it" if Dark Days Light Years was nominated.
I will of course be totally wrong, as usual, but that's my guess.

| Oops, well so much for Doves - blimey I really thought they and Manics would make the list.
Not a lot to get excited about in that list, is there?
Still, on the bright side, no Lily Allen!

| Has to be Glasvegas for me, all day long, from that dreadful list. Seen them live 4 times in past year and apart from one occasion, well, it was a privilege to have been there. Florence, Bat for Lashes, Little Boots, sorry, it doesn't float my boat one little bit. Doves shudda been there, top album, top lads, top comeback. | |

| Eeeech..not much of interest to me on that list. Most of it sounds pretty disposable...except maybe Bat for Lashes and Glasvegas, and out of those two I'd give it to Glasvegas. Agree with all y'all that Doves got robbed, though I'm pleased to see Lily Allen passed over. Definitely not sure how they came up with those nominees... | |

| The Doves album is probably their weakest so far. I think there were a lot of people who thought they should win it because Elbow did last year... Guess what, it doesn't work like that! As far as I'm concerned it doesn't deserve to be nominated. That said, neither does most of the shit on this years list. It goes to show just how bad music has become if the likes of La Roux can make the shortlist. I wonder how Bullet Proof she really is??? | |

I saw Glasvegas support Muse at Marlay Park in Dublin last August. I'd heard good things about them so had high hopes, but when I saw them they were kinda... flat. :/ Didn't seem very enthusiastic and I didn't really get into the music either. Hopefully just an off day for them - all the praise they've been getting can't be for nothing!

I agree. I think they're really overrated. If you like Glasvegas you really should check out The Twilight Sad who do the whole 'Glasvegas' thing 10x better!

| Well I'm a little disappointed, like some of you, about the Manics not being nominated Ah well you have got Kasabian, Florence and the Machine and The Horrors. Quiet like Bats for Lashes aswell. I guessed that La Roux would get an nomination, but apparently the front woman is annoyed that the album has had so much success. What!!! Not happy about Glasvegas either or Friendly Fires, but as Misspelt Yoof said they'll probably win We shall see in September. Can't wait | |
