Foals ! - i dithered and dithered and dithered about getting tickets, finally decided 2 weeks ago, aided by some Merlot to get one, and they'd all gone - it's gonna be awesome, i'd say.

| Kloot played the Thekla? Damnit! I didn't know that! Next gig - Mumford and Sons - O2 academy, Bristol It can be an AMAZING venue, but it can also attract a terrible audience! | |

| Great gig, even though JB seemed to have a heavy cold - 'dosed up on sudofed and vermouth'. Unfortunately I had to leave half way through as I was utterly exhausted and simply couldn't stand any more. I'd been working since 4.30 in the morning till 4pm at the Ryder Cup and was completely knackered. What a brilliant venue though - I was so disappointed that I didn't see the end of the gig. | |

They're on stage at midnight mate, so the evening's drinking time has to be pushed back or I won't even get in the place ! Can't believe it's not sold out, though £34 might have put a few people off.....

| MBV - How where Doves? Did it feel like the end of the band - going out in a blaze of glory, or was it an anti-climax? Wish I'd been there.
Also the Manics - just how good are they? Nothing especially unusual about the gig I saw, just 110 minutes of brilliant songs (all of which are better live than on record) and a bit of banter, thank you and goodnight. My throat was shredded the next day from singing at the top of my voice - I'd feel sorry for the people in front of me but they were belting out the songs as well. Hope your gig was as good.

My throat was shredded the next day from singing at the top of my voice - I'd feel sorry for the people in front of me but they were belting out the songs as well. Hope your gig was as good. How do, Mr K ! Firstly, the Manics were fantastic but unfortunately the crowd were rather dull - we were quite near the front but even for the Gen Terrorists/Holy Bible/ Everything Must Go tracks (Design... excepted), there was no anticipated explosion from the standing area......the more recent tracks were better received, I'd say - but I forgot what an amazing frontman JDB is, pinging around the stage - the setlist was flawless. Glad you got into the spirit Mr K, you shudda come to Manchester ! Now Doves, well what can I say, I've probably seen them over 12 times since 2000, and this was up there with the best......the official site said midnight on stage so we had a few sherberts in town from 8pm and paced ourselves well, got in at 10.45 - tickets said you had to be in by 11 , the cheeky bastards, after passing the sniffer dogs and scans by the meatheads on the door we entered a venue that I've never seen before, what with not being a clubber - dark, literally under the train station's arches, it was a myriad of a place - we found a room with Bez co DJ'ing that had a bit of Specials/Arctic's/House music playing and very fine it was, anyway after a few bottles of 'Shaun Ryder' we headed for the stage area only to see a poster 'Doves on Stage 1am' - blimey, we slowed down the booze intake, got non plussed at Field Music and Steve Mason (who is great, just not the right scenario)......and awaited the band. 1.05am we were pretty near the front, and they came on.....'Push Me On' opened, a mediocre B Side - then 'Snowde'n and this was where the gig got going, an absolutely crazy crowd - and not a knobhead in sight, fast forward to Pounding and it got madder - i was a 38 year old body of sweat and booze - it was brilliant - Jimi and Andy had a bit of banter regarding it being their swan song but it was genuinely hard to gauge if it really was the end.......the rest of the setlist was as the past 12 months with 'Rise' always touching me like no other Doves song....anyway, it got to 'Caught By The River' and 'Here it Comes', once those 2 finished, I was absolutely knackered, my legs were about to collapse, the lot - I knew that 'TGTF' and 'Spaceface' were next, anyway, I made my excuses and left, I could barely move, it'd been a long, emotional and in retrospect, epic night.....the biggest memory I'll take of the night is the fans adulation towards the 4 lads on stage. Just about got my hearing back.......

| It sounds like Doves were indeed awesome - gutted that I might never see them play again. As for the Manics - what a shame. The gig I went to wasn't exactly wild (I'm in me 40s and was by no means out of place) but most were enthusiastic and jolly. Quite a few were properly glammed up too. Oddly it was mostly the old stuff that got the crowd going - Motorcycle Emptiness was massive. Having said that, the "la la la la la la laaaa" bit in Golden Platitudes was an incredible communal sing-along - anthemic and emotional. Gives me goosebumps thinking about it. | |

Now THAT'S a stellar line up mate, enjoy. My mates won tickets via 02 - so we're off to Manchester MEN on 12 November for Gorillaz - been playing Plastic Beach this week - underwhelmed at present, would be a fair description !
