It's one of my top favourites and the song I first heard, that got me into them from the start. Yes it is totally awesome live - an experience more than a song! (Alright I'd better stop there...)

I'd be interested too to know what's not good about it for you Mrs MT (if this isn't a wind-up ) Another example of how we all appreciate (or don't) things differently.

I know where you're coming from, lee...I'm not too patient with endless instrumental friggery either, as a general rule. But Newborn isn't like that, IMHO...it's creating a mood and telling a story, sort of, so there's a point to it. It's not just noodling for noodling's sake and it serves a purpose in the context of the song. It does gain a lot in live performance, for sure...very intense and very gorgeous!

Nope not a joke, just does absolutely nothing for me musically. No matter how many times I see them do it live I still hate it.

Nice sentiment but that swelling wall of noise bores the pants off me, and it never seems to go anywhere somehow...

Audience With The Pope is weak.

And I agree, The Fix doesn't really feel like it belongs with the rest of the tracks on the album.

Fallen Angel is also a bit rock-by-numbers in my opinion; a bit too plodding for my liking.

Still all miles better than almost anything by other bands though.

My brother said that it sounded like a theme tune to a tv show, and ever since he said it, its all i think of when it plays.

Yes, The Fix is definitely out of its place on the beautiful new album. Wonder what the story is behind that song but otherwise I can't think of any bad Elbow song, to be honest

I love the Fix, its a bit of light reliefe on an beautiful, but dark album... I also heart Audience with... it gives me the wibbly wobbles!

Never been a big fan of Ribcage. To me, Cast of Thousands is the bands weakest album, it has a couple of standout moments, but it is just not a cohesive set of tracks in my mind, and Ribcage just doesnt bring out any feeling or emotion at all, which is a complete rarity for me and Elbow...

funny that, I LOVE Ribcage... I think it's Craig's piano that makes it great.

It's not what I'd call a typical Elbow song though.

It's that burst from a choir singing 'Sun Inside' that does it for me on Ribcage. Agree about it being the weakest album though.

The Fix is OK, but different.... words are clever, but it's not an Elbow song

Apart from that most stuff falls into two categories, like it or love it.

I personally dont like Switching Off. I also agree Cast of Thousands is the weakest out of the four albums.

Hehehe, i just dont like it that much. I have been told to liven myself up more though, so maybe i am undead as you say!!

It's the least cohesive, as Mirrorballed said above, but I'd still rather listen to COT than AITB.

Woah there pickle. A, calm down. B, for someone who called Garvey a poet, you've just slated their most poetic song. The lyrics to Fugitive Motel stand alone without the music IMHO.

The Everthere is a grower, took me almost a year to click, now I love more than a lot of others.
As for Fugitive Motel, herecy I say, herecy.

In your opinion only I hope. I disagree 100% with your choices. Grace is (IMO) Elbow's worst. Fugitive Motel is just about the best thing they have ever done, The Everthere and Imagined Affair are also excellent songs.

Just my opinion.

right... if i could read the lyrics to fugitive motel as a poem id love it, bus the music seems a bit limp, the same with the everthere.

ribcage totally kills off an imagined affair or the everthere.

and... LOTFW is an outstanding album, but 1 or 2 tracks on it just dont click for me. the same with COT. not a job and fugitive motel dont seem to register. just an opinion like...

now people might say that i dont like the quieter elbow songs... not true. i adore great expectations and friend of ours. and many others.
