Glad I opted out of parking on the official car park in favor of a mate's business a mile or so away. I actually used my £5.00 car park ticket (which looked identical to the gig tickets) to get into the gig. The staff didn't even check it. lol
My biggest complaint isn't the weather, it's the fact that elbow now seem to be an attractive band to the flag waving Tory brigade who would normally be found at Gary Barlow's concert for the Queen. The idiots who still think that, 'The Seldom Seen Kid' is their debut album and talk through 'Scattered Black & Whites' because they've never heard it before. Please, Elbow. Make your next record something really dark that they'll all hate. Hopefully this will force them all back to their Elton John concerts. Sadly, doing the Olympic theme will only have the opposite effect and probably attract more of these types. :-/
I think the fact that ODTL is such an anthem and Elbow appear to be such unthreatening, affable blokes [which I suppose they are in essence] belies their underlying deviancy and socialist ideals. I, for one, despise flag waving Tories. For me, there is only one good Tory........and that is a dead Tory. The thought of Elbow gigs being hijacked by these sorts of arseholes just makes me despair. If this is the case, they need to nail their colours to the mast once again. LOTFW was a great statement at the time and they need to repeat that kind of mindset, now more than ever, regardless of the commercial outcome. For me, songs like Snowball and Long War are essential........come on Guy.....don't let us down.

My comment was metaphorical, I'm not rallying the inhabitants of Elbow Room to bloody insurrection. Don't worry.
I am , however, advocating a more active opposition to the insidious rise of the right-wing we are about to witness in this country.
I'm sure Guy would agree.
Thanks

| Those official photos are amazing! Haven't had a chance to do anything with mine yet (late home and out at my parents all day today).
It was a really interesting atmosphere, more a festival than a gig. My recording reflects this accordingly. There was a family in front of me who were very vocal at telling people to "do one". A particularly loud and prolonged bit of nastiness during mirrorball unfortunately. I was stood very close to the front almost against the catwalk, left hand side.
If you are the slightly tipsy girl who was shushed for talking loudly on the phone to Nikki, and who proceeded to make out, sloppily, with the shusher... you need to get in touch with me asap. My recording for the last 3 songs is ... interesting ... to say the least.

| As I posted originally, please stay on topic.
If you want to make a thread about politics, even with regard to Guy's or any other member of the band's political leanings, feel free to do so in 'the hole'.
This thread is about the Jodrell Bank gig, and will stay that way.
Thank you.

| Elbow were amazing last night and defiantly well worth the 300+ mile round trip. ... Unfortunately afterwards we couldn't find the car in the car park and walked around for 30 mins , getting very wet , we decided to ask one of the stewards what we should do (by this point we were very wet and beginning to think we weren't going to find the car) this steward basically told us to stand in the rain for 2 hours until the field emptied ... we walked around for a further 20 mins and went to ask another member of staff, who not only took us into the real ale tent to get out of the rain , asked other members of staff to try and find the car , but also found us a drink , and found the car so although the member of staff is unlightly to see this I thought I would just say thank you | |

| Ah, that was nice of them Molly!
I agree it was a bit of a shambles afterwards. 10,000 or however many people trying to get out of a very small exit, no lights to help you to see the very uneven ground in the mud, it was a wonder more people didn't fall over. We weren't sure we were going in the right direction when we got out, and were glad when we eventually found our lift, which was pure luck! So glad we weren't in the car park!
There were some annoying drunk people during the gig, who obviously weren't bothered about watching them!

| Sounds like a great setlist! I would love to hear them perform Leaders and I hope it shows up during their next tour. That's too bad about the bad weather conditions and chaos after the concert... at least from the photos it looked like a really amazing evening! | |

| Disappointed not have caught up with the usual crowd at JB. Phone reception was awful. Tried to call Kim on a number of occasions but just kept getting a 'call failed' message. Gave up in the end and watched from near the end of the runway. Got to get down the front with the normal people at the next elbow gig. I was surrounded by people who were more interested in talking througout the show, taking pictures of each other on their mobile phones & generally being a nuisance. The worst comment I heard was 'oh look, they're doing a Take That style group huddle'. I couldn't help but respond with 'No, I think you'll find that elbow were doing that a long time before Take That copied it'.

| If y'all thought the conditions were bad try being in a wheelchair and trying to get in and out I was very frightened going out, as my friend had to drag the chair out backwards through the mud so I was facing at waist height 100's of people pushing towards me, I was terrified I was going to be knocked out of the chair Luckily a few kind souls saw what was happening and formed a type of barrier around me and held people back off me till we were clear. I've no idea who they were but thank you ! The only good bit of adminsitation for the disabled was the parking we we're on the VIP section right at the far end so 2 turns and we were out and away in front of the rest of the traffic and home in around 30 mins.I shall be complaining ..a lot ....the facilities for us were appalling! Anyway ..the gig ..I LOVED it the past to years have been awful a real struggle so that was the first gig I've been too in a long time ..and I'm not ashamed to say tears of pure joy were shed ...so thank you Elbow ...you gorgeous ,glorious men! For me personally, the lyrics of a song have never resonated so perfectly 'one day like this a year will see me right" when you've thought you'd never have a happy or a good day again it means something And if people think that's corny or not cool to you! So thank you again Elbow ...only next time lads..lose the rain and the cold ! | |

| Fantastic gig as always from Elbow. The organisers by the sounds of it do still have a lot to learn. We were quite fortunate that we stayed in the Discovery area most of the day so had no real problems with queues for food, beer or the loos. All the crowd near us of the right hand side were all up for it, and knew all the words and were just there for a blooming good sing song. Think we got lucky. I must agree though, the organisation on getting out was a shambles. We were pointed the wrong way to the coach park, then when realised, couldnt find any steward to tell us where we should be going. Dark and wet with no proper lighting was a nighmare, thus us both falling in a ditch and then me over some machinery, how I made it back in one piece I will never know!! Apart from that, we both had a great day, and hope that Elbow come back soon. I would maybe like to make one tiny suggestion, maybe just maybe we could have more stuff played thats older than Seldom? It would be nice for us fans on here Andy Landy, gutted we didnt get to meet up, but next time P.S Im very intigued about these recordings you made..... I hope that there wasnt any ' lovin' going on. ha ha | |

| I agree with everyone's comments that the organisation for cars and pedestrians was really poor on the whole. I got to Goostrey station at 11am - I guess they didn't expect people to arrive so early but there were no signposts for the walking route to Jodrell as was stated on the website, so I had to wing it with my GPS. When I eventually got there and found a way in (no obvious pedestrian entrance so had to go in via the car entrance), none of the stewards knew where I was supposed to wait or even seemed particularly bothered, which left me to wander around the site unchallenged. Eventually settled near the box office which turned out to be the right place, but the queue barriers weren't set up until 30 mins before doors and there was still confusion amongst the staff on which way people should be queueing. Getting out of the car park at the end in Pete's car took an hour and a half. There were only two ways out and one wasn't moving at all, apparently due to cars stuck in the mud which were waiting for tractors to pull them out. I'm sure given the weather forecasts that they could have been more prepared. I hate to think how long everyone behind the stuck cars were waiting! BUT of course Elbow are always worth the hassle and the cold and the rain, and perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but I thought all the support acts were outstanding. Lots of fantastic new music to discover in their back catalogues which makes me very happy. So nice to get to see everyone that I did and meet Pete too for the first time (Holmes, not Turner!). Extra special thanks to Pete, Ticky, Joanie, Lorraine and Dave, you are all amazing. Cestrian Saint - We were wondering where you ended up! Yeah I didn't have great phone signal either, it's a pretty remote place. Whereabouts were you stood? Queen Ali - Was going to ask if you got home ok! Did you stay overnight in Crewe or were there night coaches maybe? Andy Landy - Thanks mate! | |

| Hi Kim. Spot on with your comments. On friday I was told by the organisers that they'd got over 1km of temporary runway for the car parks as they were already very wet. There was no where near 1km, just a bit by the entrances to the field. So glad I opted to park at a friends business a mile or so away.
I ended up on the left hand side near the end of the runway. Gutted I didn't see you all. But I'm sure we'll catch up at a future show.

This is exactly the sort of thing I was referring to in an earlier post. I was surrounded by people who had no idea what SB&W's was. They also didn't know LOTFW! Just because you don't know the song it doesn't mean you have to talk all the way through it and spoil it for others. :-/
