First Album - Slayed by Slade

Not bad for a first attempt at album buying. I've certainly bought worse since.

I never really went for singles (oh, alright, my first was Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep but I *was* vey young at the time ), but my first album was the first (self-titled) Queen album (which I got into when Bohemian Rhapsody came out but my mate's Dad already had Night at the Opera). I was in the Queen fan club too, pre-Internet days

My singles buying stage didn't last too long either. I very quickly discovered the joys of the album. Relics by Pink Floyd was a very early album purchase.

Elbow - cast of thousands, when I was thirteen.

I'd listened to chart stuff before that, but I found this indie record shop in my hometown, and there was a free listening post. And I heard it. And I saved up for a month to get it. And the next week I bought The Clash's first album.

Aye, Hotblack, I suppose being about 7 at the time is a poor excuse (come to think of it, at that age it was probably bought for me). On second thoughts it's porbably safest to stay on topic (albums) with Queen (I still actually play their first 4 albums quite a lot...).

I remember running down to the local record shop when I was about 8, clutching my pocket money in my sweaty little hand and handing it over for a Gary Glitter record. I felt very happy to do so. Why the shop assistant allowed me to buy it I don't know. He should have known better.

Mine was Radio Ga Ga by Queen, can't remember the first album but I went on a Queen album buying rampage after that so it was probably Queen I

Help, is there really a hidden connection between Queen and Elbow?

As far as I know, only that they were/are both excellent.

My first actual purchase was The Steve Miller Band "Book Of Dreams".

I think ACDC "Back In Black" was next.

I had four older sisters. So, before I started buying my own records, I'd swipe their 45's and play them on my little blue turntable. They had the Beatles, Chuck Berry, James Taylor, Rolling Stones....gosh, can't remember what else off the top of my head, but between the four of them, they had quite a few. I'd slyly add these to my collection of albums when I didn't think my sisters would notice.

Erm... first single was 'Lifted' by the Lighthouse Family

First album was Morcheeba's Big Calm. I remember wanting it after I'd heard it in Pizza Hut...! I got my dad to buy it for me up in town...

First album I remember buying was 'Yellow Submarine' by The Beatles. Single I think was 'Steal My Sunshine' by Len. Anyone remember that one?

I honestly can't remember the first album. It was probably some sh*te band though.

First album bought for me: Madness's Complete Madness compilation.

First single bought for me: either House of Fun or Driving In My Car by Madness.

First album I bought: leaving aside the acid house compilations (I was well into house and hip-hop as a teenager) I think this was Three Feet High and Rising by De La Soul... but the first rock album I bought was Blood Sugar Sex Magik by the Chilis.

First single I actually went into a shop and bought myself: erm, cough, I Think We're Alone Now by Tiffany, which I think cancels out my mockery of Curtis Stigers and the Lighthouse Family

actually, scratch that, it was Kick by INXS. The above was the first CD I bought, I think.

think it was AC/DC - if you want blood.

When i was 9/10/11 was into heavy metal for some reason. Grew out of it rapidly thereafter.

I think the first album that I received was Elton John's Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, but the first album that I bought with my own birthday money was The Escape Club's Wild, Wild West. I can only blame it on being too young and not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I was about four or five at the time.
