- Poorly and Hawley definitely don't rhyme as the 'oo' in Poorly is pronounced like the 'oo' in 'Boooo' (the scaring sound ghosts make) and the 'aw' in Hawley is pronounced like the 'aw' in 'Awwww' the sound Jones makes when she sees a kitten...
Oh, ahem, and no canvassing has taken place... Down south, we say 'poor' like 'awww' as you put it Jones. As such, they rhyme! Win!

| At least I know, that "much" is pronounced in mancunish "mooch" and I noticed, that "winter wonderland" sounds in mancunish almost GERMAN! (Winter Wunderland (Winnter Woonderlaaand)) and I know a Cockney-Joke (did I told it here yet?) about a non british man who comes to London. He has an accident and awakes in hospital. Panicked he askes the nurse: "Came I here to die?" She answers "No Yesterday" And when I was in Scotland years ago I asked for the way and all I understood was: "RRRRRaydaccrrrross over the rrrroundabout....." But I guess, you might have the same problems in Germany. The Berlinians change a G into a J (the G like in Guy into a Y. They say not Guten Tag but Juten Tach (Yooten Takh ) The saxonians turn every T into a D, P into a B and K into G (Guten Tag sounds "Goodn Daaag") And how the Bavarians talk Elbowfreak might know best | |

| Isn't it just out-of-touch TV presenters and upper-class MPs who speak the Queen's English these days? Received pronunciation ain't wot it used to be, innit. Hey, Leo say 'cup of tea' and 'kipper tie'... | |

Hey, Leo say 'cup of tea' and 'kipper tie'... i'm not THAT brummie. Im not like Mr. Birmingham, from Birminghamtown, Birminghamshire, Birminghamland. I say "tee" and "tie. Not "tay" and "tuay", or "tie" and "tie". Then again. You get some Brummies who would say those as the same. They really piss me off. Its like they do it deliberately...

| If you say "bacon" in a West Indian accent, it sounds like "beer can" in a Northern accent.
Just thought I'd share that with you.
