| So am I the first to comment on the show at Cardiff last night?
I guess from reading the earlier reports there's no point in mentioning specific songs that were played or not played, but suffice is to say it was a genuinely fantastic show. Guy told the crowd - and it seemed genuine, rather than something he says every night - that it was the best crowd of the curent tour to date, and with a few exceptions (see below) the crowd were genuinely into the show, lapping up the songs with smiles and singalongs.
I'm a relatively new fan, in that I've only come to Elbow at SSK, but I subsequently bought (and enjoyed on heavy rotation) all of the other albums, and converted at least 7 other people to their music so far...including my 8 year old daughter, my ex-wife and her 62 year old mum!
I'm a music lover in general, and generally see around 10 shows a year, so to say this was in my all time top 3 shows means it really was something special to me. I hadn't been to the Caridff University venue before, and I was surprised at how compact it seemed, but it was full and the sound quality was exceptionally good. So many gigs I see, even from 'major artists', the sound quality on the vocals can be really p*ss-poor - yes Mr Beck Hanson, I'm talking about you! This one, every word was crystal clear, and there were no duff notes from Mr Garvey. He was in charming form, having a lot of fun with the crowd, and I think my girlfriend fell in love with him a little bit, but I'll let him off.
The only bugbear I had was with several members of the audience standing around me, loudly CHATTING away, during the quieter songs (mentioning no names, Mr Moderator!). I told a couple of twtittering girls to please SHUT UP during the songs. A bearded, pony-tailed oaf, one of their boyfriends, then got in my face, telling me it wasn't against the law to talk, so they were going to carry on chatting. Several other people rounded on him too, thankfully, telling him and his wittering nitwits they were being rude, selfish and disrespectful, and if they wanted to chat through the music, they could go home and chat through the CD if they wanted! The end result, thankfully, was not me getting beaten up in the car park afterwards, but they were shamed into shuttiing the f*** up for the rest of the show. Result!
It was my first Elbow show, but I'm hoping to see them many more times in the future.

Starlings Bones Of You Leaders Of The Free World Mirrorball Some Riot Red Grounds For Divorce Mexican Standoff Lonliness Of A Towercrane Driver Newborn Great Expectations Weather to Fly One Day Like This
Puncture Repair Station Approach Scattered Black And Whites
Really, really special night. There's a fine line between 'gig of the year' and 'best 120 minutes of my life'. More in the morning... maybe.

| My second gig of the week last night, after Cambridge on Monday.
Both as good as each other, great sets. One Day Like This nearly blew the roof off the Roundhouse.

I really appreciated the spoiler warnings - we've been avoiding this thread all week and it added a certain giddiness to the proceedings not knowing what was coming next! Sarah and I were front row at Cardiff, and it was amazing. Some Riot and Weather To Fly (I'm assuming we're not hiding spoilers anymore?) caused my jaw to drop, they were absolutely stunning. I could hear some chatting but most of the crowd seemed great - not least the couple very front and centre who were seriously getting into the music! Great gig, Jesca Hoop was beautiful and I have Jupps setlist. Sarah and I are planning to get the full set, obviously..

| Wow! Second time seeing Elbow after Glastonbury, I had to sign up to share my excitement! A fantastic gig. I think Station Approach was my highlight, that song just does things to me! Obviously One Day... was just stunning as well. The chorus of Grounds For Divorce just hits so much harder live too. ...basically it was all highlights!
did anyone get a free CD outside as well? some band giving them away, Revere. Pretty good stuff. They said they'd be back tonight. Top night!

| Hellooo, my first post on here!
Went to the Roundhouse last night and am still grinning from ear to ear, such is the effect that Elbow live have on me. My 4th Elbow gig this year as well and, while I have to say I preferred being front row at Pompey on Tuesday, last night was just as amazing. Standing in front of the sound box watching the goings-on during One Day Like This (won't spoil it for those yet to go)....I literally cannot explain how it made me feel. Such a happy, positive and joyous song, I blooming love it.
And the Potter and Garvey families were there! How much does Guy look like his mum?? Was just a perfect night and this week has given me some brilliant memories. [/emotional fool]

*OFF TOPIC* Revere are the most awful, pretentious band I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. */OFF TOPIC* The only way last night could have been any better was if Powder Blue was dropped into the set. Have they played it since the first night of the tour? An amazing set from a band who never cease to amaze me. I think that was the 10th time I've seen them live this year, I could never get bored of the Elbow live experience.

Doors - 7:00 Jesca Hoop - 8:00 Elbow - 9:00 Would advise to go early if it's a nice night. We arrived before the crowds and managed to sit outside on the terrace having a few drinks before the show. Would also advise seeing Jesca Hoop as she has a special guest vocalist on one of her songs It was a great gig last night. The Elboys seemed so happy. Loved their little drink break and the intro to Weather To Fly. Lost my voice during the pre-encore song so would like to say 'Happy Birthday Jote'

At the beginning of this thread it was stated that they played Powder Blue in Cambridge. They don't seem to have played it since so I wonder if it proved too challenging.

A friend got one for £30 last night after much bargaining. Doubt it'd cost more than £40 tho. I'm torn. I can't really afford it, I could do with an early night and three nights running could lead to Elbow-overkill. But then again, it is Elbow.
