With Love

I seem to have detected a lot of indifference regarding this song, the odd comment on here and generally in reviews etc....I absolutely love it, yes, it's a pretty straightforward song' but the almost carribean feel to the chorus' instrumentation is really floating my boat.

Some may say that it tends to stick out a bit on the album, but to me, though agreeing, finds it a nice variation to some of the other gentler tracks.

After listening to barb! for the 3rd time - it's in my top 4 or 5 of the album......be very interesting to see if it makes the live setlist.

Fair point MBV. I think I was too quick to judge "With Love".
I wrote the above comment after hearing it once at Cambridge. I've played the album a few times now and I think there's a lot more to the track than I initially thought. Difficult to fault anything on the album at the moment, but I'm loving The Birds and The Night Will Always Win just a little bit more than everything else.

Nice one Sparky, pretty much connected to 'With Love' straight away - 'TNWAW', I agree - I think, as long as people don't chat through it (this is my my BIG fear with this album, due to it's stripped back nature and some wanting/only there for TSSK tracks) - could be stunning in the arena's, really moving.

Yep, 'With Love' a great song - hope they play it in Sheff and M'cr.

I love it. I'd be astounded if it isn't the next single too.

Brings a tear to my eye and makes me smile.
I also like hearing the boys doing more backing vocals.

One of my early favourites, this. Quite different, but we've come to expect pleasant surprises with elbow.

I'm very much appreciating the way the the tracks are layered on "With Love", it's been assembled beautifully, almost like a dance track in terms of construction.

Plus, I love the somewhat perverse but neat touch of having the Halle Youth choir speak the line "Wiiiith love".

I love this song, got nothing bad to say about it, it's very catchy

I love it! It's the catchiest song on the album except ''Neat Little Rows''. Should be a single for sure.

was a bit unsure when it first started, did think what have we got here...
for a second or three - but its very good, I like it

Has anyone else noticed that it has the same background riff as ODLT? Never gets old haha

I think this song sounds a lot like 80ies YES

I just love the whole album but With Love is up there with my favourites...it's easy to sing along to and you can vary what harmonies you join in with!
As anybody with a kind word will know, love willl find you

Its taken a while but I now like this song very much. They played it at the 02 and we all joined in. I do however think that the studio version could do without all those voices saying 'with love' in such a floppy way - maybe once or twice would be ok but every for chorus/refrain, it starts to grate after a few times

I see where you're coming from - I think the backing chorus vocal is a rare example of an Elbow sonic experiment not coming off (for me at least). But this has grown on me a lot.

Reminds me of Picky Bugger - placement on the album, falsetto, quirky lyrics, quirky stop-start musical structure.
