What's the general age range of Elbow fans?

At a governors meeting at school the other week and the chair said he couldn't get to a meeting in March. Guess where he is going - you got it - an Elbow gig. We went on to talk at length about their music.

He's 72. EXCELLENT

I'm not surprised at the huge age range. We live in a time where many of the original music pioneers of the 50's, 60's and 70's are still with us. If many of the artists who we admire are of pensionable age, so why not music fans too?

Some people like to cling to the music they enjoyed in their youth (look at the number of superannuated teddy boys and punk rockers), many others like to move with the times and continue to embrace and appreciate quality music.

I have really no idea of what kind of people listen to Elbow, and what their age are. I'm in France and I talk to a lot of people but NOBODY around me knows them, and I have never been in contact with Elbow fans, it's the first time I log on a Elbow forum (it took me time because I'm shy and scared of people on internet ) and sometimes (but I know it's not true ) I have the impression I'm the only french people who is fan of them, and also because when I try to spread Elbow songs around me, people don't seem to like them, I really don't understand why, we hear so many shit (sorry) on french radios... It's not like if Elbow was very weird or special, it's a pleasant music, it's the only band I'm listening to and I'm very shocked that nobody here appreciate their music and I feel really frustrated to have no friends or contact to share this passion with.

There's not a particularly big fanbase here in the US, either, so I kinda understand where you're coming from. I have a friend who saw them last month in a 5,000 person venue. The last time they were in his area, they were in a 3,000 person venue, and it didn't even sell out. :/

I've also heard about the music over there in France. I have a very dear friend who lives there. We talk and share music all the time, and she has told me how, for the most part, French music is just kinda, well, not there.

Anyway, enough about that. We're here, and you can talk as much about Elbow as you very well please. Enjoy!

Been following the band since before Asleep In The Back. Based on my mental age this must mean I've been following them since the day I was born.

We were at the recent gig in Madrid celebrating our (soon to be) 40th wedding anniversary and met a couple there who were celebrating theirs!

I can't believe how so many people haven't even heard of Elbow, I'm absolutely sure they've heard their music though. Makes me wonder how much other stuff they're missing out on.

I'm 16 now and they've become my favorite artists.

My dad used to play Elbow a lot when I was a kid and I always thought they where boring, luckily my taste matured a bit!

I don't know a lot of people of my age that like them, they're all into Dubstep etc... :s

Well, either people are "too young" to like them or you don't life on the UK (like myself) and they are not known to that many people.
But that doesn't matter. Just listen to what you want to, and if it's Elbow that's even better.

I don't live in the UK either but they're known here in Belgium, they get a lot of good reviews etc. The problem is that their music is not as accesible as the type of music a lot of my friends like.

You're right everyone should listen to what they like but it'd be fine if I could talk about their music with my friends.
One of my friends did like them though after we same them at the Rock Werchter festival, so there's hope :p

That's one of the downsides when you make special and alternative music, the sound is always top quality but there aren't a lot of people who know about your music...

Their music is more for adults I think, we'll see what happens when we get older

I know what you are talking about. Luckily I share going to concerts with a friend of mine. So she goes to one of my fave Bands and the other way round.
she went with me to my two Elbow gigs and seem to like them. Sure, she's not buying their CDs but it's great not to have to go to the gigs alone (which I did at the Manics gig).

I'm 38 !! I have a 7 year old fan too. Her favourite song is Grounds for Divorce

@Elbowfreak, that's awesome! Luckily I still have my Dad, he likes them too. You're lucky you've got a friend who enjoys them too! Going to concerts with you dad is a bit akward.

...my dad is also a fan, he is 51

I've just turned 33 now and my girlfriend (who I have converted into a Jodrellite) is 31. I have a copy of their debut EP packed away somewhere in my garage, but they slipped out of my musical map until Leader came out, when I started to listen to them regularly. Since then they have been the band I have listened to more than any other. Just keep alternating their albums.
