Doctor Who

Well.... I've got a houseful of sobbing teenagers here and, to be honest, I had a little cry as well. After the dreadful episode on Christmas Day this was a blinder. Goodness knows how the new Doctor will compare to David Tennant - I just can't see it myself.

I'll be honest, i'm a big fan of Who and a shed a few tears myself, but that was a RIDICULOUS piece of television! Twenty minutes (at least) for Tenn to regenerate when we new it was coming since June? I wish i'd have made up some Dr Who bingo cards cause i would have won (Although i'm still not entirely sure what it was that happened!)! I could not be happier that Russel T Davis is leaving and can not wait for Stephen Moffat to take over. Moffat is all tact and the fear of the hidden, where as Davis is loud noises, explosions and as much running, crying and homosexual undertones as humanly possible. I will miss David Tennant, but i think i'll like Matt Smith!

Is Jon Pertwee dead then?

It will not be the same with Matt as David will be so fondly remembered. Love Russell too. A BIG BIG THANKS TO HIM FOR ALL HE HAS DONE TO BRING DR WHO BACK TO OUR TVs.

Strangly enough I didn't cry. Probably cause I was sooo prepared for it...

But I'll miss him forever. He's my perfect Nr. 10!

Hope David is going to be a huge star - so I can watch many movies and stuff with him.... *bothfingerscrossed*

Thinking back to how Chris Ecclestone did a such blinding job with the reboot, then how gutted I was when he decided to go so soon, I can't help thinking that Matt will end up endearing himself to us just as much as DT did.

Definitely agree with Sarah though: Bearing in mind these last two finale eps were RTD's swansong, he could have done a lot better. Inconsistent pace with pointless sequences & self-indulgent faffing spoiled it for me, especially when he has drawn much better story arcs for just a season end. Meanwhile, 'Blink' shows Moffat to be a worthy successor. Can't wait.

I love Dr.Who, but that episode on New Year was the most confusing piece of crap to ever appear on British TV. Looks like Russel T. Davies decided to go all out on his last ever episode.

What a shame you have to use this tone. We thought it was great and as usual Dr Who story lines created a talking point of interest with us here.

I have to agree with Dabs, it was such a mess and certainly no where near RTD's best work, the Waters of Mars made it look as though the doctor was in deep inner turmoil, RTD puts him in a lei, hints at some debauchery and that is apparently sorted. It was overly complicated and confused, it could have been so emotional, but ended up like a victory lap by the end. When did Mickey and Martha end up together, she was engaged to a doctor last i heard. It felt like - Look at this character, remember them? Yeah! How about them? Yeah! Look at them cry, look at him cry... the end.

Ok... it maybe wasn't his best episode - unfortunatelly cause it was Davids and Russels last but:

Oh everyone is buh-ing on RTD!!! I don't like that AT ALL. If it wouldn't be for him we wouldn't watch Dr. Who anymore. Anybody cheered him for the first two seasons and then BANG.... like he is the first person to be hated when it's about Dr. Who. I don't get it. I like what he has done the last four seasons and btw. Moffat has only done a few episodes... Wait till you see what he does over a period of four seasons....

So... I love RTD and DT and I'll really miss them!!!

I think as the man to bring back the franchise, to have a vision that involves more than one show and interwoven plots, to have a very clear view of what he wants to happen, yes, RTD should be praised, but i feel he is one of the weakest writers. The strongest episodes are in my mind Blink, the Empty Child, the Girl in the Fireplace and The Silence in the Library all penned by Moffat. They are subtle and yet terrifying with a real sense of fun about them "What's pre-revolutionary France doing on a spaceship Mikey, have some perspective." I think Who will only go from strength to strength with the new change of personnel. I will miss Mr Tennant's gangly run!

My point was that Dr.Who used to be a (mainly) children based programme. My 8 year old step brother absolutely loves Tennant and The Doctor, but he clearly didn't understand a word of those last 2 episodes, and it was sad to watch him as he became more and more dissapointed and confused.

I, personally, will miss David Tennant, since he was awesome, but hopefully the new doctor and new writer will bring back the fun, light hearted side to Doctor Who, instead of all this "drumming" and "darkness" bull. The Doctor became quite self obsessed and troubled (or he appeared to) in the last few episodes, which is totally out of sync to the earlier stories.

Hopefully he will get a new partner next time and start fighting amusing looking aliens and monsters again, while cracking witty jokes...

I didn't cry until I saw Dr Who Confidential. How insane is that!

I have mixed views about the last couple of episodes. It would have been interesting if the Doctor had gone to the dark side as it would've given David something else to play. I did think it was a little self indulgent and lost me toward the end. Matt Smith's performance was top notch though, and I'm really looking forward to the Spring.
I have a sneaky feeling that we will be seeing John Smith and Rose in the future, maybe in a one off special or a spin off series. I mean, anything is possible in the world of Who.

Dr Who Confidential is the companion programme that goes out after each new ep, looking behind-the-scenes at aspects of production. Like Lesley said, it was quite an emotional one as it showed DT's last takes with a pretend call-back so the crew could wish him all the best. Poor guy got quite choked!

But then, you're not only the Doctor:

- And now - everytime I watch Harry Potter - I squee a little, even if it's a small part
- There are much more movies out there I haven't seen at all... Only a few snippets on youtube...

Therefore:
- I really hope that Rex is going to be broadcasted at first and then going to be a huge hit... Altough I'm going to miss your accent! If Rex is a hit, it'll be shown in Germany and maybe you'll become a star over here, too (like Hugh Laurie) and all the things you've done will be released over here, too! *bothfingerscrossed*

Every actor who's ever taken on the role of the Doctor suffers in comparison to the previous one. I'm too young to remember William Hartnell, but I do remember being upset as a (young) child when Patrick Troughton regenerated into Jon Pertwee. It was in Black and White and it were all trees, then.

Moving on apace, I don't remember any of the actors taking on the role being considered as being a good choice, but they all made the role their own eventually. Tom Baker was probably the hardest act to follow after being the Doctor for seven years (did he actually leave the role voluntarily, or was he pushed?), but all of the actors made the role their own eventually, even Sylvester McCoy! In fact, it was only the appointment of the dreadful Bonnie Langford as the assistant that drove this particular viewer away from the show, and Langford's equally appalling successor, "Ace", failed to draw me back in.

I for one wish Matt Smith well in his new role and I look forward to some intelligent, scary plotlines from Steven Moffat, rather than RTD's tendency for histrionics, explosions and "magic bullet" plot resolutions.

The way I see it is that David's going to have a long, successful career, so there's always going to be something to watch. It'll also mean that he might appear on Strictly Come Dancing!
I think that Matt Smith is a worthy successor, so Dr Who is still going to be entertaining, particularly with Steven Moffat in charge.

as a huuuuuuuuuge DW/DT fan I was crying. The last time i cried that much was when King Daga died and when I read the last Harry Potter book.
I broke my heart when he said "I dont want to go"
but i am so so sooo glad that RTD is leaving, im really really looking forward to Moffat time!
The episode was shite. I mean why why WHY did he (RTD) have to bring back the timelords?? THey are s'pose to be a mystery. and the cactus people? NO POINT WHAT SO EVER.
What RTD did well though was the Wilf/Doctor scenes, really good and really sad but still very brilliant.

My thoughts on "The End of Time."

I'll have to "acquire" the uncut episode; BBC America put commercial breaks in some really inappropriate places, which hurt the emotional development of the epilogues.

I didn't hate Davies' and Tennant's finale, but I also thought it was weak.

I'm looking forward to the new season, though. I've had Karen Gillan on my desktop since summer!

I bloody love David Tennant, and I shed a wee bit of a tear on New Years Day...
