| Speaking of Oldies, I think the "oldies" in english spoken area did not grow up with German Schlager and might be a bit cooler than the German Oldies... And even Conny Francis and Roger Whitaker sounds less embarracing in english (at least for German ears) My mom must be a special case. Most women in her age are into Elvis if they are at least a bit cool. But most are into the german (very embarracing) pendants of Elvis: Peter Kraus and Ted Herold But even my old Granny when she was still alive was into cool music. She liked "Shine on you crazy Diamond" | |

| Billy Joel (mum) or Simply Red (dad). I had a tough childhood.
Okay, that's a little bit of a lie, my dads music taste isn't actually that bad and we mostly listened to Motown, 70s power ballads and 80s soul, but c'mon, BILLY JOEL

| Simon and Garfunkel and Phil Collins mostly. Nowadays my mother listens to 3FM (the Dutch equivalent of Radio 1 I think) and really likes Snow Patrol.
I think it's cool that I went with my parents to see Art Garfunkel and later I took my mum to see Snow Patrol.

| Have to really think back on this one as it's quite a long -time ago ! I seem to remember my Dad being into groups likes The Inkspots and The Platters. Glenn Miller was popular in the home also. As was The King ofcourse. I have records by the above in my collection, so must have had an impact on me . The Bachelors were another fave...I remember their version of "Puff the Magic Dragon" being played alot ! Not sure my Mum was much into music though. | |

| Mam was into Elvis, Dickie Valentine (all together now, "Who?!"), Mario Lanza, Jim Reeves and general Radio 2 fodder that I remember from the early 70's onwards. Many's the time I remember getting ready for school with Diana Ross & The Supremes "The Happening" blaring out of the Rediffusion telly. Dad 's music-buying habits were very sporadic. He'd be one those who go, "Who's that?" and a day or two he'd turn up with a 7" of some dodgy song or other. ELO, "Mr Blue Sky", Darts "Duke of Earl", Boney M "Rasputin"... you get the picture. That and dreadful western film soundtracks! | |
