| Scattered Black and Whites is definitely a favourite amongst my friends and I... pretty chuffed they're playing again. I've seen Elbow twice and they didn't play it at either - got my fingers crossed for this time! The lyrics and what give this song its ddep beauty for me, but for sheer Elbow-tastic music it also has the ending. Which has to be one of the greatest album enders there is. Hmm, I smell a new thread there... Anywho, share the love for this subtle gem. | |

| i love the reminiscence behind it. Guy recalling his past, and Craig's meltingly beautiful piano.
top 5 favourite. | |

| i second that, it's probably top 3 for me infact. the lyrics are great, and i agree, the piano is beautiful too. the whole thing is almost hypnotic.
looking forward to seeing it live tomorrow! *touch wood*

| The ending makes it not pop! Though Elbow have shown that they are also masters of teh pop, eh. | |

| My most played Elbow song according to iTunes. From the very firt listen of Asleep In The Back all those years ago it stuck out as a wonderfully beautiful song. I cannot help but sing along when it comes on shuffle. All round lovely lovely song. And I agree about the ending. Perfect! | |

| Absolutely love it... The gentleness of it, Guy's voice and eloquence, the musical arrangement, Craig's piano playing. So evocative, brilliant and delicate. Like a beautiful bird flying past that you are lucky to catch a glimpse of...
Sigh... | |

| Hello
Just joined the forum. I think I'm gonna like it here.
I've seen the band three times this year (Leeds Met, Delamere and the Apollo last night) All three gigs have been great.
Can anyone tell me what Guy is singing at the end of SBAW's at the live shows? (The last few lines, it's not on the album)
Am I missing out on something or being thick? Hope not as this is my first ever post on any forum. Need to get off to a good start!

| I didn't think he was singing lyrics in that ending, just sort of wailing. It's awesome in any case. Welcome to the community! | |

| Hi Sparky Welcome to the board. Not sure quite certain about those words but I tend to think it's: "We're Here".
That's what I like to think anyway. I think it's about missing home so it would kind of fit.

| Thanks Jonny / Tinwal
Both plausible theories. Has anyone else got any views on this? It would be nice to get a definite answer but the one thing we all agree on is the beauty of the music and lyrics.
One of my all time favourites

I agree with Tinwal and Sarah now; it sounds like: "We're Here, Yeah Yeah Yeah" repeated over Playing it back I can see Guy putting on his coat (and hat at Delamere) and moving back into the shadows. Awesome song. Awesome performance on stage and the greatest ending to any gig / album ever. Cheers everyone.

| Just listened to Scattered Black and Whites . It snuck up on me on shuffle. Brought a lump to my throat - as usual. Had to stop work and just listen. So beautiful. | |
