What is all this 'Geoff/Jeff' stuff people keep mentioning? Who are all these Geoffs, and what is their significance to Elbow?

Guy called them collectively, 'Geoff' when they came on stage as they were all dressed similarly, with hats, like his
....he originally called some out of tune notes at the Apple store gig 'Geoff' aswell!

The Geoffs have a group on facebook now, but there are still only two video clips of monday night on youtube

Elbow- RFH

Does anybody know how many Geoffs were fans and how many fans auditioned but got turned down? I wanted to try out for it but wouldn't have got the time off for rehearsals
