| ...always get a hard time around here. Has anyone got their new album ?
I've always thought they are much better than others and get a rough time unnecessarily. A rush of blood to the head has to be a great album in anyone's mind.

| Used to be a coldplay obssesive. Like properly adored them and everything about them but i have matured musically thank god. they are a good gateway band for getting me into other things. they will always have a special place in my musical world. listening to viva la vida today is proving interesting. they have moved out of their comfort zone it would seem but they are still guilty of the big choruses and sort of sweeping sounds that typified x&y in some places. that said i am enjoying it...its no kid a but its a start! | |

| I used to be obsessed for a bit myself.
Parachutes is one of my all time favorite albums. "High Speed" is one of THE best songs...ever. Brilliant.
A Rush of Blood To The Head is superb.
Then I sort of lost interest. They got too polished, or big, or something that I can't describe, for my liking.
Still love Parachutes and Rush of Blood To The Head though!

| I like Parachutes, not so keen on the others. 'Fix You' makes me want to vomit. I think it's Chris Martin's voice that really grates on my ears.
That said I do quite like 'Violet Hill'...

| Chris Martin makes me want to hurt things! I loved Parachutes, i can't listen to it any more, but as someone else said, that album opened my eyes to a different kind of music... up till that point i was VERY into Linkin Park!!!! | |

| (And Blink 182!!) The only decent club in our (very rural) area had a mix of DJs... including a NU-metally DJ... so you know... i was influenced! After that i got more into indie, then Elbow then opened even MORE doors, if i'm honest, the biggest influence on my music taste has been the SP forum, those guys have GOOD taste! | |

| Slightly analogous anecdote about Coldplay:
Went to see them at the Reebok a few years ago, unfortunately not when Elbow were supporting (couldn't get tix for that night so saw the Doves, still great). We were right of the centre front 10 rows and became two of many getting irritated with the 5 or 6 obnoxious upper-middle class posh boy twunts who'd obviously smoked waaaay too much. After about 30 mins of them trying to pick fights, start a crush and being well out-of-order abusive to all in range, some bright spark shut them up in a very Northern way by chucking half a meat pie slap bang into the Toploader-lead-singer-like hair of the main twunt. They shut up and slunk off pretty quick after that...

| Grunt Futtock gets my vote. Kenneth Williams I believe.
Aye, Coldplay. Got into them with Parachutes and have bought all their albums since then. They write nice tunes that aren't too uneasy on the ear. Occasionally, they come up with something that really touches me (I think Fix You was the last time they did something like that - always reminds me of my daughter and the fact that, whatever goes wrong in her life, I'll be there to make things better. Awww! Now, though, I hear Coldplay may have "borrowed" from Elbow on that track, so that colours my view a bit.). The latest album (crap title - could they not make their minds up what to call it?) is okay and I can see how they're trying for something new, but they'll always have that stadium sound. |
