Bright Grey asked me to go, so we were there. Great atmosphere and audience (bit like elbow gigs Wink )
There are some video clips appearing on youtube. These were a couple of my favourites on the night.

It was actually my first time at Dingwalls, and to see Neil Finn in action Smile ... couldn't believe the already long queue outside, even though I got there at 7pm and doors wern't till 7.30, though was a bit later by time they had finished soundchecking.

Closest I've ever got to any member of Radiohead!
only managed a stadium for them before,

so the collaboration in a small venue was a treat!

The Press Release wrote:
7 Worlds Collide - The Sun Came Out
The first 7 Worlds Collide album, a collection of amazing musical talents from across the globe in aid of Médecins Sans Frontières, was a unique live performance experience, fusing the varied talents of a stellar cast across a range of cover versions to create a series of shows that culminated in the live album of the same name. Seven years after that project, instigator Neil Finn has upped the ante with the new 7 Worlds Collide project, ‘The Sun Came Out’, a double album of original songs created and recorded by many of the original cast alongside notable new additions in an intense three weeks in his native New Zealand. This time the beneficiaries of this album will be Oxfam, as well as music lovers worldwide.

Familiar faces from the original album abound, Johnny Marr, Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway of Radiohead but this album, first and foremost presents the listener with new songs rather than interpretations of old favourites. ‘The Sun Came Out’ also features a whole host of new guest talents such as KT Tunstall and Wilco and heart stopping firsts, including Phil Selway's songwriting and vocal debut as well as dream collaborations such as those between Johnny Marr and Wilco's Jeff Tweedy; and KT Tunstall and Neil Finn .

At the heart of the record is Neil Finn. His enthusiasm and drive persuaded the likes of celebrated producer Jim Scott, Lisa Germano, Johnny Marr and Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy, Pat Sansone, John Stirratt and Glenn Kotche (amongst others) to spend their Christmas holiday in New Zealand and even interrupted KT Tunstall’s honeymoon in the process. The setting had its advantages though, as Neil notes, if the worst came to the worst the assembled cast could write it off as a holiday. Thankfully, the results mean that all those involved got both a holiday in one of the world’s most stunning landscapes and created some of the best music you will hear all year.

With families welcome, the studio became a constant whirl of creativity and energy throughout the three weeks allocated to create the record. Johnny Marr returned from a run on the beach with the basis of ‘Too Blue’, where Jeff Tweedy was waiting to add his talents; KT Tunstall stopped Neil retiring to his bed to complete ‘Hazel Black’; a wandering Johnny Marr added a chorus melody to Liam Finn’s ‘Red Wine Bottle’; Ed O’Brien fashioned ‘Bodhisattva Blues’ from a Tibetan chant. In this atmosphere, anything was possible and Neil’s wife Sharon found herself laying down her debut vocal on ‘Little By Little’ whilst Phil Selway also took his vocal bow and unveiled a hitherto unknown songwriting talent with his solo turn ‘The Ties That Bind Us’ in one take.

From Neil’s original doubts over the idea, “I thought, what is this? Is it just an ego thing’”came a double album of astounding collaborations for the listener and amazing memories for all those concerned in the recording. At the centre of it all stands Neil Finn, too humble to take the glory himself, it is left to KT Tunstall to give the credit due to the man who made this happen: “It’s Neil. It all comes from him. There’s something about him that made everyone open up creatively”.

Jeremy Hobbs, Director of Oxfam International said: "7 Worlds Collide is a great project - I hope The Sun Came Out is a huge success. Not just because it's a unique musical experience but because each CD sold will make a difference - raising money to fund Oxfam's work to fight poverty."

What an excellent way to raise money. Well done Neil. A great album by the sound of it. cheers

This thread is sorely in need of an update:

Crowded House's new record label wrote:

23rd March 2010 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CROWDED HOUSE FINDS A NEW HOME
ICONIC BAND SIGNS TO UNIVERSAL MUSIC
Album “Intriguer” due in June as world tour is set

One of the most distinctive and beloved bands of the past quarter-century is returning to the front line of popular music: Crowded House has a new album and a new deal with the world’s leading music company, Universal Music.

Crowded House – Neil Finn, Mark Hart, Nick Seymour and Matt Sherrod – have completed “Intriguer” for release in June through Universal Music worldwide (Mercury (UK) and Concord (USA)). The 10-song album was produced by Jim Scott and Neil Finn, and recorded in Roundhead studios in Auckland, New Zealand.

“Intriguer” follows 2007’s “Time On Earth,” which hit No. 1 in Australia and New Zealand, and No. 3 in the UK. It was a continuation of the legacy created by such music milestones as “Crowded House,” “Woodface,” “Together Alone” and “Recurring Dream.” These albums have together accounted for career sales of more than 10 million, produced such global hits as “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” “Something So Strong” and “Weather With You,” and created Crowded House’s reputation as one of the most compelling bands in the world.

Neil Finn said: “I look forward to a long and productive relationship with Universal Music, who are obviously the music company setting the benchmark now. We're delighted to be in the company of music-loving people who believe in us and are eager to spread the word.”

Max Hole, Chief Operating Officer of Universal Music Group International commented: “Neil Finn has one of those instantly recognisable voices, and is one of the world’s most accomplished songwriters. We are thrilled to be working with Crowded House on ‘Intriguer’ and beyond.”

“Intriguer” will be released through Universal Music companies in the world outside North America.

As befits the band’s extraordinary live reputation, Crowded House hits the road from Sunday March 28 with dates in Australia and New Zealand. They play shows in Europe from May, including the UK’s Isle of Wight festival, and embark on a North American tour in July.

Crowded House will also be headlining at the West Coast Blues Festival in Fremantle on March 28 and in Byron Bay at the East Coast Blues Festival on April 4.

Bright Grey, thanks for posting all that kick-ass info! I was so thrilled to get a mailing list announcement via email that mentioned the upcoming tour, since they'll be playing a few shows in Florida! I am hoping and praying that the stars align just right for me so I can make it to either the Miami or Orlando gig. It would be sublime to see them live!

In the meantime, to whet our appetites, here's a video of the band performing their new tune, Saturday Sun, which will be the lead single from the new release. Song sounds good, and Neil's hair is awesome as usual! Very Happy

I have my tickets in hand for the Crowded House show in Orlando next month, and I am so excited to go! I've been checking things out on their website and found that there are a couple of cool features there. One allows you to submit a song request if you're going to see them on this tour (just asked for Fall At Your Feet, hope they'll play it!) and another allows you to download an instrumental track and then add your own vocal to it. If you submit your track and they like it, it might be chosen to appear on a future single release. Excellent idea, though I won't be ruining their tune with my voice! If anyone more musically inclined wants a go, the page with the download is here:

Just wanted to say that the Crowdies show in Orlando was BRILLIANT. I mean, virtually flawless, really... can't get over how it all sounded! Even Mr. Chrissie, who is not as excitable about music as I am, was knocked out and kept going on about it for days. And the new album, Intriguer, is quite good. Not what I would call on the same level as classic Crowded House, except for a few tracks which are absolute gems, but the new stuff sounded so much more warm and alive on stage, so I was lucky to see them this time out. Neil Finn is so friggin' awesome - when you are at a show and you hear them going through the range of material he's written over the years, it really hits you how good the man is. Wish I could've seen them on more than one stop! I love you
