| I've never heard of him but having had a quick look at some Youtube stuff try Nick Drake, especially the albums 'Five Leaves Left' and 'Pink Moon'. The only other proper album 'Bryter Layter' has it's moments but it's too jazz inflected for my tastes. | |

It's probably embarrassment more than anything on my part; I heard of him a while ago (I think on the Augie March mailing list - anyone like them btw?) and confess I haven't properly listened yet. Note to self...

I love Nick Drake. I guess Elliott Smith is a little bit of a cult thing. Most of his listeners on Last FM seem to be my age, early twenties, etc. Either way, it's astonishing. I don't want to patronise people - I don't know how much you all know about him! But anyway, he was a singer song writer in the early nineties, did about 4/5 albums and then killed himself. Lovely.

| I missed this thread!
I love Elliot Smith, as well as Nick Drake. I do admit to being more familiar with Nick Drake's stuff though.
Just listened to Pink Moon about two weeks ago. Lovely stuff.

Nick Drake didn't commit suicide, it was an accidental overdose of anti-depressants
