And yet...

I've actually seen one of his stand-up shows, a couple of years ago. Part of it was the aforementioned 'eroin and sex routine, and whilst not really offensive, was simply not funny. However the other part of his show. which included some skits from stories in the local paper, and some audience interaction, not only had me laughing, but also showed a real talent for the art of comic storytelling. I was really surprised. Why does he not do more of this stuff?

After the show, Mrs K, myself and our friends where having a drink in the bar, and in came Brand. He didn't have a drink, but did spend half an hour signing autographs, having photos taken etc. A nice ego massage, I'm sure, but also nice for his fans. He had a chat with Mrs K once the more eager fans had gone, and she said that he was charming, in a hyperactive sort of way. After 2 or 3 minutes he said to her he had to go because he had an early start the next day, apologised to her for being rude, gave her and her friend a hug, and left.

So yes he is an idiot, and a very annoying one at that, but there may be more to him than the public persona. Or maybe not. Either way Brand, if I ever hear you say the word "'eroin" again I will not be responsible for my actions..

He did a warm up for his current tour local to where I live a week or so ago and was brilliant. He didn't even say the word "'eroin".

I like him.

i think theres some psychology in that the majority picked the first "idiot". cant explain it, but, yeh. maybe like we feel safer to go for the first (simply because it is first), or the people who went for the second "idiot" consider themselves to be perhaps rebellious etc. the mind works in such strange and unquantifiable ways.
