| It's time for the end of year lists to start being published. So what was the Elbow board's (second) favourite album of the year?! Post your favourites or top 10s or whatever.
Go. | |

| Apart from TSSK I haven't heard that many albums this year, but I really liked the Futureheads album and the Diplo vs Santogold mixtape (funny how they're still called mixtapes, innit?) | |

| The most interesting CDs of this year I haven't bought yet, because I had to keep my money together for Holidays and the Elbow-Tour... But I think I'll get soon the new CDs by The Secret Machines and Mogwai As a former hairmetalfan I should freak out about "Chinese Democracy" but I think I'll rather buy the ironically same named CD by Warrior Soul... | |

| TL, I've been a Secret Machines follower for a couple(few?) years now. I'm always rather surprised when anyone else knows of them. | |

| I was a huge fan of Secret Machines' The Road Leads Where It's Led/Now Here Is Nowhere... still am in fact. What a record! Ten Silver Drops didn't quite do it for me, though, and I have heard the self titled record. Would you recommend? | |

| Johnny, I also really liked the first album. Saw them live at a very small venue in NYC around that time and they were amazing. Then I sort of petered out with the interest...no idea why. Haven't picked up the self titled so I've no idea how it is. Let me know if you do pick it up. I'd like to reignite the interest. | |

| Aye I will pick it up. But if it's anything like Ten Silver Drops... ach, TSD wasn't even that different to the prior album, it just sounded like it had become tired and uninspired. So my hopes aren't that high.
But aye, I will report back.

| Hello everyone
These are my favourites releases this year:
1. Elbow - TSSK 2. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend 3. Courteeners - St Jude 4. Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs 5. Glasvegas - Glasvegas 6. Last Shadow Puppets - Age Of The Understatement 7. British Sea Power - Do You Like Rock Music 8. Guillemots - Red 9. Lightspeed Champion - Falling off the Lavender Bridge 10. Kismet - Jesca Hoop (I know it's 2007 but I bought it this year!)
My favourite purchase this year (after TSSK) is Plans by Death Cab For Cutie (from 2005)
I think I may have missed out on the following and I'm hoping Father Christmas may fill the gaps: Isobel Campbell & Mark Lanegan, Fleet Foxes, The Dears and The Acorn.
Is there anything else I should add to the christmas list before we start 2009?

2 good points there Jonny. I can't have a 2007 album in my "best of 2008" and you're right, she should have been higher up anyway (if she'd been allowed in!). I'll take Jesca out and replace her with REM - Accelerate Unless..... Put Jesca in at number 4 with "Kismet Acoustic EP" released in 2008 featuring Guy on "Murder Of Birds" ? Worth a try?

| Robeman, if you're not keen on EuroPop don't touch it with a bargepole: Stuart Price produced it, the guy behind Les Rhythm Digitales. I loved LRD and it's more of those big shiny sounds all round. | |

- Glory Hope Mountain by the Acorn is just beautiful. It's inspired by conversations the singer Rolf Klausener had with his mother about her life. One of the lyrics that sticks in my head is: 'Your rosy lungs were empty on the day that you were born / And no one thought you'd see it past the morning.' It's such a beautiful image - anxious, tender and full of drama. I think I Am Kloot's I Am Kloot Play Moolah Rouge is the only true rock'n'roll record released this year. You've got true, earnest, honest songwriting with the power of the Stooges. TV on the Radio's Dear Science is without a shadow of a doubt Elbow's favourite record of the year. It's so rare that we all agree on a record, but all five of us have really got our teeth into that album.
More acts name their best albums of 2008 in The Guardian here.

No number 2., because nothing came close to Elbow last year.
