Never seen her live, but she's opening for Elbow at the show I'm seeing in Atlanta so I am really looking forward to her set! Been listening to her for a week or so now to get more familiar with her music and am enjoying it a lot. Lovely stuff, and I am glad I'll get a chance to catch her. Just hope the crowd will be decent - hate to say it but the behavior of some southern-Amercian concertgoers can be bloody appalling, especially with a more sedate type of performer like Jesca. But hopefully those folks who have enough taste to see Elbow will be a bit more open-minded and well-behaved!

I absolutely adore her and loved it when she opened for Elbow. But yeah, I'm afraid to say some of the crowds were appallingly rude during her set. She handled it like a champ though.

I agree totally, it felt like there was a semicircle of people around the stage who were listening and quietly falling in love with her while those on the outskirts chatting away! Instead of getting pissed off I was just pleased I was paying attention. Their loss, right?

Absolutely. She was so adorable too. She'd say things "let's just pretend someone has left the vacuum cleaner on..."
I just focused on her and tried to ignore the sad losers who were missing a big treat.

Not sure if it should be in this thread but does anyone have the lyrics to the Murder of Birds track she sings with Guy? Much appreciated if anyone does.

Some information on her new album:

HUNTING MY DRESS OUT NOVEMBER 30TH IN THE UK
I am pleased to report that I have completed my second record. I should say we really. We, and more specifically defined as, Tony Berg, Shawn Everett, Blake Mills, Patrick Stewart, Nicole Eva Emery, Quinn, Joe Karnes, Z Berg, Patrick Warren and myself finished my record. On the morning after the last tracking session I hopped on a plane to Manchester where I have been living now for the past five months. The mixing was done by Shawn Everett there in LA. After he was done with a mix or two he would send it to me via Usendit and I would take notes afterwhich I would Skype him and we would discuss changes that needed being made. This was a great excuse to spend some time via Skype with some of my favourite people in the world... Tony Berg and Shawn Everett.
The track listing for Hunting my Dress goes as follows:
1. Whispering Light 2. The Kingdom 3. Feast of the Heart 4. Angel Mom 5. Four Dreams 6. Murder of Birds 7. Bed Across the Sea 8. Tulip 9. Hunting my Dress

Jesca's gig at The Slaughtered Lamb in London last night launching her second album was sold out, but I hung about and luckily I managed to buy entrance off a boy whose friend couldn't make it, just before the support played. It was in a small dimly lit basement, with comfy chairs at the front. There was the most respectful and polite audience at a pub venue that I've ever been part of, at any gig I have ever been to, so it was easy for Jesca to talk inbetween songs, without even using the mic sometimes. She was accompanied by Zoe on some vocals, and Jimmy on guitar, whom she made wear some of her hats. She also gave out a parcel and we all played "pass the parcel" near the end with winners unwrapping her new cd, which she was signing after.
she was the only one taking real photos there at the gig that I know of.

The Slaughtered Lamb is one of my favourite venues. Everytime I have been in there the audiences have been respectful and the musicians have blown me away. Thanks for the review!

Jacqui! A good friend of mine and Sarahs from the Snow Patrol board - she tends to be the only person taking real photographs at any gig! I was just looking at this set of pictures this morning. Her gig photography is superb. Small world hey!
Anyway, Jesca Hoop's bloody brilliant isn't she

Just listened to her new album on the ipod on the train to Hawley. It's wonderful. Didn't really enjoy Kismet, but this is superb

Thanks for the links here LWD; I've been enjoying catching up with them. It sounds like it was a wonderful evening. I'm really loving "Hunting My Dress", it's such a different feel to Kismet and yet equally good; I think I'm liking it even more.

It really was, so pleased I went. I'm loving the album too, but also the recent live versions with Zoe and Jimmy. I hope they stay with her while she plays in the UK, their sound works so well together. Wish the lyrics had been printed in the sleeve. Anywhere on the internet you've come across that has 'Hunting My Dress lyrics yet?

Wondered if anyone got a decent recording of Jesca's live session on radio 2 Radcliffe & Maconie last week? Its only available for one more day on iplayer! Really was a beautiful session of 3 songs and chat. Whispering Light was gorgeous...she is with a drummer and another backing singer now aswell as the two accompanying her before, and as a band for the tour, with all the harmonies, sounding even better.

Oh thank you LWD. I must say I wasn't a fan when she supported Elbow, I liked her but nothing screamed for me to go and buy her LPs. Now I have a healthy obsession I listen to Hunting My dress almost everyday. She is magical. I tried to get a ticket to see her and Cat Le Bon at the Jazz Cafe in Camden but tickets were sold out

I was at Jazz Cafe. Jesca, with band, played all of album and Money as an encore.
Didn't anyone here (apart from Elbow, and lots of Pete Turners?) go to the Deaf Institute gig?
