| Hi PaulHighbury.
I think the spelling is Magi.
You'll sometimes see The Three Wise men at the Nativity being referred to as " The Magi": Magi is the plural of the word "Mage" which is related to the word magic. Similarly, the word wizard is related to the word wise.
I take this usage of the word Magi in Dear Friends as meaning wise men, rather than magicians.

| According to the official lyrics it's spelled Maji... I also took a look what it means and to be honest - no clue. *LOL* But I think "Mass effect planet in the Milky Way" would fit the best. He's also singing that the friends are stars he's navigating home by... So... Maybe stars in the Milky Way. | |

| Thank you. I did initially think this, but then I checked the official Elbow site lyrics, which has it spelt as Maji. Mind you, it also shows all the dates on the albums incorrectly, including Build A Rocket as dated 2003! Never mind eh Paul | |

| Yeah, if I had to guess my bet, would be spelling, agree Mr Woman/heshofcheese. The only thing with the Milky Way theory is that I have a hunch it's fictional, looks like it's a sort of online game Mass Effect on a google search.
So, it's over to you Mr.G.
....or anyone who may know him

| Wow, strung this one out good! Can we discuss "proove" from the Red lyrics in the AITB booklet next? As far as I'm concerned it's just accidental | |

| Without a doubt, a Magi (as used by Guy) means a wise person or someone capable of extraordinary feats. The lyrics on the Elbow site will be a typo.
On one of the songs on the COT DVD, ( I think it's I've got ur number, the one filmed at the cottage in Scotland) Jupp is wearing a T-shirt with Magi on the front.
God, i need to get out more.......... | |

| Maybe we all need to get out more It's something when you get a whole thread devoted, not to the lyrics of a song, but one word in the lyrics of a song! | |

| Oh no... It's not about getting out more often. I read through all the lyrics the first time I get a new album. And words I don't understand I try to translate. Maji was one of those words (Stockport supporters Club was another expression, or simian stroll.. Never heard that before *lol*). I want to know what I'm singing about. | |
