| It's like the Elbow I know from the Noisebox EP and the Elbow I love from The Seldom Seen Kid got together and made sweet, sweet love. Listen to it here. Now, since that's decided, let's move on to the next order of business: What are the lyrics?I need your help, guys. I have to know. | |

| 'Kay, I think I've got most of it figured out:
------
Ticker Tape
Smile with all my teeth just like my proud mother taught me swaddled in their [unknown word] [unknown word] myself how I behave
and everything I did I did for fear of working hard and I make it look deliberate and brave and someone else's heart now means more to me than mine and I swear to keep my sanctum in my grave to keep a sanctum in my grave
and I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave
Tie a woman to the tracks so you can benefit the rescue I detest you--no, I love you, can you see which way is up?
and I feel that understand you must abandon them is [unknown word] random they distress or will always feel you cold
and so it was until my love came holdin' up a mirror and I saw the soul that angels wouldnt save
she showed me how my blackened heart could beat for two and how it does I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave to keep a sanctum in my grave
I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave
-------
The words I wrapped in brackets are the ones I couldn't figure out. I don't know if maybe he was using words I, being the naive American I am, wouldn't know, but I would appreciate it if you guys would help me piece this together.
Because this song is awesome. | |

| Just had a listen and my additions are in bold:
Ticker Tape
Stole the papers from a dead man And I whistled through the border And I waved with real heroes In a ticker tape parade
Smiled with all my teeth just like My godmother taught me Swaddled in their praise Bouqueted (?) myself how I behave
And everything I did I did for fear of working hard And I made it look deliberate and brave But someone else's heart now means more to me than mine And I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave To keep a sanctum in my grave
And I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave
Tie a woman to the tracks so You can benefect a rescue I detest you--no, I love you, Can you see which way is up?
When they feel they understand You must abandon them This modus operandum may distress you But we'll always feel you call
And so it was until My love came holdin' up a mirror And I saw the soul That angels wouldnt save
She showed me how my blackened heart Could beat for two and how it does I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave To keep a sanctum in my grave
I swear to keep a sanctum in my grave

What I hear is "Forgive myself how I behave" for this line. Does anyone else hear this? - Kim wrote:

To keep a sanctum in my grave And it sounds to me like he's saying "And I swear to keep her safe until my grave". Even with him saying it multiple times I couldn't hear "sanctum"... But I do have pretty poor quality speakers so I could be wrong! | |

Another listen to that last bit and I think it's "I swear to keep her safe 'til in my grave." | |

| *lol* what a relieve. I thought I am the only one not understanding the lyrics. We should ask them to print the Song lyrics in the booklet again. That would help. Btw.: These are such heavy lyrics yet so beautiful... Typical! Just love it. | |

| Wonderful...hadn't heard this track yet as I've been unable to navigate the purchase from here. I'm still trying! But it sounds amazing. Very brooding sort of sound to it, and the lyrics (as far as we can tell, anyway!) are magic. Just first-rate. | |

(Still smiling how all the band made that night even more special for you) (and Kim did well too, lol) xx I listened to it a few times and it's really unclear. But I hear the last letter as a 'd' (as in 'kid') so you're probably right! And I am still overwhelmed by it all - I don't think anything will ever top that night!! They were so wonderful | |

Modus operandum! Man, I could not figure that one out for the life of me. Thanks! - emma wrote:

But I do have pretty poor quality speakers so I could be wrong! It's funny that you say this--the first time I played the song with the intention of figuring out the lyrics, I too thought it said "keep her safe". I still can't decide whether it's right, though. Each time he says the line twice, and the first time he says it always sounds a tiny but different than the second. | |

Ahh it's a tricky one. I had to listen to it quite a few times before figuring out it was Latin, hehe. | |

| This is such a gorgeous song, I'm loving it. For the last few days I've been thinking why is it "only" a B-side (but then Elbow have done some stunning B-sides) but now I've heard the album (came today, woo-hoo!) I can see why - the mood is so different. Both amazing in completely different ways and that's one of the things I love about Elbow.
It's "I swear to keep her safe till in my grave" I'm sure. | |

http://www.7digital.com/artists/elbow/neat-little-rows-1/ No joy there for me, LWD - it had me down as coming from a US IP address and it wouldn't even show me the single or B-side on the US page. I know there were some instructions given about using proxy servers to try and purchase from UK sites while in the US, but I haven't found one that is up and running properly on the few times I've tried. I will keep trying, I'm sure I'll manage it at some point! Thank you for the link though, I appreciate the help! | |

| I remember that Guy (or maybe it was a stand of the whole band) was talking about ''shoegaze and psychedelia'' inspirations in relation to new record. After some spins i didn't notice that at all (except ''The Birds''). BUT....''Ticker Tape'' seems to be one of the ''lost psychedelic tracks'' from recent session. I think it's amazing and should be included on ''build a rocket boys!''. | |
