RIP Gerry Rafferty Empty
PostSubject: RIP Gerry Rafferty   RIP Gerry Rafferty Icon_minitimeWed 05 Jan 2011, 14:07

So sad to hear the news of Gerry Rafferty's passing today due to liver failure after long-term alcohol abuse.

Professionally reclusive for years, his best-known solo hit 'Baker Street' documents his antipathy towards the music industry. If you don't know much about him, he was also half of Stealer's Wheel with Joe Egan. Now synonymous with Tarantino's "Reservoir Dogs", their "Stuck in the Middle With You" is the other most widely-known example of Rafferty's work. Earlier still in his career, he'd also been part of folk outfit The Humblebums, most notably with Billy Connolly before he crossed fully into comedy.

Growing up with a couple of Rafferty fans through his most acclaimed era, there's so many great tracks to recommend, but here's a few to give you a sense of the talented, poignant soul what we've lost today:

The Right Moment (said to be his own favourite track)
Her Father Never Liked Me Anyway (The Humblebums)
Get It Right Next Time
Rick Rack (The Humblebums)
Sleepwalking
Right Down The Line
Whatever's Written in Your Heart
The Ark

Thanks for posting Mrs W. I hadn't heard.
Very sad... Is it just me or have we been losing a lot of gems lately?
Guess, I'm just getting older, I'm sure he didn't really feature on the younger ones' radar...
Anyway, his music will live on and how fabulous it is as well.
Wow, 'Baker Street' , I don't know but that song just signifies summer for me!
Sad news indeed...
