| Has anyone heard about this compilation before? Apparently it released on the 14th of September, but I only managed to hear about it for the first time while reading the Nov. issue of Uncut. A blurb about it with the track listing: - Quote :
- Guy Garvey, frontman of Mercury Prize Winning band Elbow, has assembled a new compilation CD, including some of his favourite songs and artists that have influenced him. Of the 23 tracks on the compilation, there's a lot of old blues and soul artists on it, some quite obscure, and some numbers which he has played regularly on his BBC 6 Music radio show 'Guys Garvey's Finest Hour'.
'The Elbow Variations' is due for release on September 14th. The tracklist is as follows:
- Quote :
- 'Jump, Jive An' Wail' - Louis Prima & His New Orleans Gang
'Mardi Gras In New Orelans' - Fats Domino 'I Put A Spell On You' - Screamin' Jay Hawkins 'Fascinating Rhythm' - Oscar Peterson 'I Don't Want To Set The World On Fire' - The Inkspots 'Only Have Eyes For You' - The Flamingos 'I Just Want To Make Love To You' - Muddy Waters 'Leave My Wife Alone' - John Lee Hooker 'Brand New Cadillac' - Vince Taylor 'Parker's Mood' - Charlie "Bird" Parker 'Bewitched, Bothered and Bewildered' - Ella Fitzgerald 'The Thrill Is Gone' - Chet Baker 'Strange Fruit' - Billie Holiday 'Dark Was The Night' - Blind Willie Johnson 'Madama Butterfly: Humming Chorus' - Maria Callas 'Ac-cent-tchu-ate The Positive' - Jonny Mercer 'Hold Tight' - Fats Waller 'Cow Cow Boogie' - The Inkspots with Ella Fitzgerald 'I'll See You Again' - Noel Coward 'It's Only A Paper Moon' - Nat "King" Cole 'I Got Rhythm' - Django Reinhardt 'Someone's Rocking My Dreamboat' - The Inkspots 'I'm Down In The Dumps' - Bessie Smith | |
