I've only just got into Nick Cave and for the last week I've been listening constantly to the Lyre of Orpheus - loving it. Can anyone recommend another album of his?

I've been meaning to get the Lyre of Orpheus for ages - thanks for reminding me. :-) I don't know much of his by any means, but I have and love The Boatman's Call album. I also have his Murder Ballads album which does what it says on the tin and has some great guest vocalists including PJ Harvey and Kylie :-)

They all had them at Llandudno and apparently they had Scottish ones too in Edinburgh. Well he chucked it into the crowd after the song (I narrowly missed it Wink ) so perhaps they couldn't afford a replacement for Newport... Laughing

I'm really pleased this thread has started up again - I'm loving his music more and more. I took your advice Glendarian and got The Boatman's Call - excellent choice! BTW - is he playing anywhere else in the UK this summer?

From Her to Eternity
Henry's Dream
Boatman's Call

I also advise Junkyard from the Birthday Party(his first band).

The two records as Grinderman(basically nois-blues style) are quite good.

I love Nick Cave Thumbs Up! .

Have any of you Nick Cave fans come across the awesome Jeffrey Lee Pierce tribute album We Are Only Riders ? (another review here). I heard of it via another favourite band of mine, Woven Hand - David Eugene Edwards does a couple of great tracks - and Nick Cave has a strong presence on the album - his version of Ramblin Mind (the first of 3 on the album - a snippet can be heard on the site I've linked to) is totally amazing. Mark Lanegan, another favourite of mine, is on there too plus many others.
I didn't know the Gun Club or Jeffrey Lee Pierce before coming across this but like what I'm hearing.

The Gun Club's first 4 albums are various shades of genius. They were almost primal in their power - they seemed to dredge up huge slabs of American blues torment and stir in punk attitude and rockabilly riffs. People sometimes compared them to The Cramps (TGC guitarist Kid Congo Powers played with The Cramps), but The Gun Club were a much darker, deeper and infinitely more interesting band. They actually created quite a stir in the music press in the early 80's, but JLP's craziness seemed to indicate they would burn bright but briefly. In fact it is amazing that they lasted as long as they did, but in the end drink and a broken heart did for him in '96.

One journalist described Jeffrey Lee Pierce as the missing link between the Eagles and Kurt Cobain!

The Gun Club seem to have passed into obscurity, but they were hugely influential, and truly original at the time.

I bought a book a couple of months ago about Nick Cave and I seem to have lost it when I moved back to sweden... Need to find it because it was really good!
Nick really is one of my favourite men of all time.
