| Why do I call this topic like that? There are so many good movies that aren't blockbuster movies or known internationally by everyone. Here's the place to post those! (I started a topic with "Once", which didn't have such a great response) I just watched a German movie called "Kirschblüten Hanami" (Cherry Blossoms). Although I am from Germany I am not into our "moviescene" a lot, but this movie is so touching and sometimes heartbreaking. Elmar Webber is probably one of the best German actors and he won several prices for his performance. Thank god I found a trailer with english subtitles. Hope you enjoy it and if you have the chance to watch it, have a try! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uqiMLQPJUKA | |

| The Swedish film Låt den rätte komma in (or Let The Right One In) is superb.
I saw a brilliant French film on Sky Movies Indie the other week, I'll let you know what it was called when I remember!
EDIT: It was the brilliant Jeux d'enfants (or Love Me If You Dare)

You really should. At least before the Hollywood remake hits cinemas next year.

| Personally I'm not a big fan of international movies, but this one is by far the best one I've ever seen. It's a war movie about a norwegian resistance fighter during World War II. Was so amazed by the quality of both the actors and the movie itself, enjoy the trailer (has english subtitles) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbK4WTQFf9U | |

That's all I can think of for the moment. Nothing on the TV last night so I re-visited Battle Royale I'm amazed Hollywood haven't tried to destroy this with a dodgy remake.

| Anyone seen Lucas Moodysson's Lilja 4-ever?
It's an excellent film with important messages about human trafficing. Possibly the saddest thing I've ever seen though.

I'm amazed Hollywood haven't tried to destroy this with a dodgy remake. Yeah me to. If they did I'm sure they would destroy the story and add terrible, terrible actors. I think it best not to think about really.

Pan's Labyrinth L'homme du train Shall We Dance? - the original Japanese one.... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shall_We_Dance_(1996_film)::Takeshi Kitano films:: - Kizzu ritân (Kids Return) - Sonatine - Hani Bi ....and if we're counting Australian lowish-budget films as international.... Somersault (+great soundtrack by Decoder Ring) Noise

| Been watching a few animated classics from Japan with my daughter recently, all by Hayao Miyazaki. Her top 3 favorites are Spirited Away (which is my fave too!), Kiki's Delivery Service and My Neighbor Totoro. Even if you don't have children these are wonderful films. I'm quite fond of Miyazaki and there is a new film of his coming out here in the fall, which I am really excited to see. | |

| I really enjoyed the Japanese film "After Life", about people who've just died looking back and filming their favourite memory. Really moving and atmosphereic (and a concept a bit like "Switching Off" I guess). I saw it at a local film society that shows quite a lot of international films - other stand-outs for me inlcude "Amélie" and the Inuit film Atanarjuat - The Fast Runner - really atmospheric. Looking back at other people's, I really enjoyed Pan's Labyrinth too and have been meaning to see some Miyazak for ages. | |
