Last night, I got my name mentioned on the Finest Hour. A couple of weeks ago, Guy got asked about a strange instrument sound on Dove's There Goes The Fear. He didn't know what it was so asked if anyone knew. I did, having come across the Cuica (a strange South American thing) in a recording studio once, and along with two others, e mailed him with the answer. It was approximately 14 minutes into the programme, if anyone is interested. (It's worth listening to anyway, last night's show was a cracker!)

Fame at last!! cheers Very Happy Embarassed

I couldn't do anything with it, could barely get a squeak out lol! Tried the traditional Andean/Peruvian guitar (can't remember what that was called) Couldn't work out the tuning. So that ended my foray into world music. Very Happy

Nice one Hesh! Thumbs Up! We were listening as it went out last night, and heard you get your name check and thanks for the muso know-how.

Don't want to steal your thunder but I've got a confession to make: I got my letter read out some time back. So what you might think. Well... with the magic of SoundForge, every time I get a text I now have a Mercury Prize Award winner and national treasure heralding its arrival with "Mantraluna Guy, Mantraluna MrsWoman!"

if they are what im thinking of the guitar things they are called ( and this is phonetic spelling ) churanga's, and the back of the instrument is made from an armadillo or something, but nice to be able to pass the info on via the programme.

That's the thing! Spelt Charango (according to Wiki), the picture of the Peruvian one on the wiki page is similar to the one I had a shot on.

It does indeed. Guy is pretty much a legend just for that, never mind his "day job!"

I will never forget how he played "In the Pines" by Smog for my Birthday last year. Very Happy
And he meantioned me a few times with the "Dave Stewart Virus" What a Face (I am the short haired one with the guitar beside the pic of the cat...)
And I can't help the feeling he really pointed at me during my filming in Würzburg.... Shocked
I hope I can meet him after the concerts in November in Germany... Cool

If I remember right he played Morrissey because the show was broadcasted from the beach. He said no names and it was an old track (Every day is like sunday). But I had the same thing when he played The Engineers "Home" and I thought he did it because I asked him but he sent greetings to "Jay" who had, just by chance, the same idea like me Shocked
