Hey, are you from Germany? Wir sind Helden aren't bad! And Kraftwerk is known internationally. Just like the Skorpions.

Wow, not bad. I would love to learn Spanish, I just don't know if I would need it that often. English is just more important.
And not beeing off-topic: He's not from Germany but he's propably the best lyricist in the german speaking area: Falco!!!! (from Austria) Just listen to that - guess everyone knows that: http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=MG-cA0vu9-Y

It seems that once a year I am having a Herbie-phase... Grönemeyer is sooo great. I just changed my Mobile tone into one of his songs!
And I love the fact that Anton Corbijn did this video (and a few more)!!!
Wow, Elbow and Corbijn... that would be awesome...

Though I am a bit frustrated about actual german music scene I think that there are a LOT good german bands. Also a good bunch of german spoken bands. I think, that "Wir werden uns wiedersehen" from Selig has a lot GOOD in common with Coldplay. One of the few german spoken bands that "stole" good from Chris and Co. Wir sind Helden are ok too. They have a nice kind of coolness. I don't like Silbermond, mostly because of the whiny vocals. The music is quite close to Coldplay and others but the singer ruins it in my opinion. Same with Rosenstolz. Anna is a good singer but sometimes too close to "Schlager" (the place where horrible Heino comes from...) Wortfront is VERY good. Sandra Kreisler, the singer is an austroamerican and daughter of a well known austrian black humor singer/composer and Roger Stein, the Keyboarder and her husband is from Switzerland but they live in Berlin Speaking of the Eurovisions, I liked Max Mutzke more than Roger Cicero. I think Ciceros Lyrics are not that good and I don't like that swing style vocals that much. Mutzke has a very soulful voice, very close to Steve Winwood!
But I think, one of the best german band might be Element of Crime. They started in english but later they started to do german lyrics and those lyrics are really good
17 Hippies are cool, they even have been played at -was it- Mark Riley?!
I like Krautrock and back in the 80ies where a lot very good german Metal Bands but they were all english spoken
ah, and before I end...I really like Fluchtweg, a real cool punkband from Berlin (my bro in law plays the bass there)

Herbie-Phase back again!
I don't want to fill the "Tearjerker"-Thread with Grönemeyer stuff... So I bring this thread back to life!
Ok... here's a version of "Ich dreh mich um dich" (I revolve around you). For fans of him it's quite hard to watch. This was recorded around two years after his wife and brother both died of cancer within few days. You can still see that.... Very moving.
I couldn't find a translation on that - if you need one just ask, and I'll try.
I could post loads of videos from him. Don't know why - he's just there. Bought a DVD just yesterday.
I'm thinking if someone like him exists in the UK (well - he lives in the UK at the moment soooo... *LOL*) but I can't name one... He's like a national hero. Ok... there are people who make fun of the way he sings (quite mumbly). But all in all...

Yeah, I know what you're talking about. The "Bleibt alles anders" (everything stays different) and "Mensch" (human) albums are so sad at times... I've watched "Dort und hier" (there and here) from the Mensch DVD just before and had to cry... Ist jemand da, wenn dein Flügel bricht.... That's just heartbreaking.
But you have to say that he also has not so sad songs, too. Loads of them!!! With great lyrics, too.
To be honest, I would love to write this stuff in german cause I cannot tell in the english language how much this man means to me....
It's really hard to tell and you can tell by reading the stuff that I wrote just now that it's difficult... Oh boy... where's my English gone???
