Robert Newton who played Long John Silver in treasure island invented what has now become known as the "Pirate Voice" the Ahhhhh ha ha my hearties stuff we were all doing yesterday, he just used an eggageration of his own Dorset accent for the role and it has now become the template of Pirate speak, if Newton had been a Geordie of heaven forbid a scouser it could have all been so different,Newton is also patron saint of Speak like a Pirate day as well, thats all me hearties my fact hunt is over Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha
