Your top 10 Elbow songs?

ok cause i was a bit bored i tried to take everyone's lists and add them together.
Might have messed up a few, so can't promise 100% accuracy and i know we all have different fav's at different times...... but anyway.
the overall consensus would be;-

Scattered
Fugitive Motel
The Birds
Newborn & Station Approach joint 4th
Switching Off & Ribcage & Great Expectations joint 6th
Tower Crane Driver
Powder Blue & Mirrorball joint 10th

Sorry, not been around too much lately, and don't seem to have received notifications that some of you have posted on here, so apologies for not thanking you for your votes.

ChrissyBoy's done a pretty good job of sussing out how the top 10 are panning out, but as we've had votes from non-forum members, and also as not everyone who's put their top 10 on here have actually voted, it's all a bit squiffy.

If you've done your favourites here, but not voted here, can I ask you to spend a couple of minutes doing it, just so that our poll will be as accurate as possible.

Don't forget, the show's going out on the last Friday of this month, 27th May, at 10pm to midnight, on Phoenix 98FM!

Just a reminder that the Top 20 show will be broadcast on this Friday from 10pm on 98FM in the Brentwood/Billericay area, or online at Phoenixfm.com, where you'll be able to join me in the chatroom. Two hours of solid Elbow as chosen by you! What could be better?

It's incredibly close at the moment as to which is going to be number 1, literally one point in it, but there's still time to vote, so please do. Also, the fight for 20th spot is a bit like the premiership, little in it between 4 songs, one or two votes could change the bottom of the table completely!

Had a boost last week when Craig Potter kindly tweeted about it.

I adore The Birds as much as Lippy Kids but was surprised to see it attain a higher place given the extra air-time Lippy Kids had, the band giving us that live version on YouTube.

Disappointed to see Weather to Fly not in the top 10, and Friend of Ours missing out just about the Top 20. Well deserved places though for Great Expectations and Fugitive Motel - wow at its getting to no. 2! 'Tis typical Elbow beauty though, so, unsurprising.

I wanted Loneliness higher too and was surprised by Red coming in at 19. I thought it was more popular than that.

Top 20 album stats:

Build a Rocket Boys and Cast of Thousands - 2 places each.
Leaders - 4 places
Asleep in the Back and Seldom Seen Kid - 6 places each!

Asleep in the Back's weighting (aside from its being a very strong piece of work, especially for a debut) comes from the appreciation of die-hard long-time fans I think and Seldom Seen's from the newer fans, the novelty and brilliance these newer fans were experiencing... Leaders was a solid album but not their best, Build a Rocket is still too new to fully behold, and Cast of Thousand's shining beacons were the two songs it hit home with in the top 20....both are divine but the album as a whole was weak and I feel the results reflect this. Ribcage would have been the next best offering from Cast. Great song, so very Elbow, sadly missing out on a top 20 place, but hardly by a long chalk, which is something.

Just my thoughts.

It only made the top 20 due to the final voter having it as their favourite, otherwise it was below Friend of Ours.

Of all the Top 20 shows we have done this spring, this was the closest contest - most others had a clear leader - and also the second highest number of votes. I think that high number's due mainly to the forum members, but perhaps Elbow are 3 times more popular than Blur...

No Hotel Istanbul, Loss, Long War Shuffle or Ticker Tape? That's a shame.

Anyways, were all these songs just the studio versions? Because sometimes the live versions are exceptional--to the point of even topping the studio version. (The live version of Scattered Black and Whites at the Astoria, for instance.)

Sometimes the live versions are very disappointing, too. Like any live version of George Lassoes The Moon where it was loud and shortened and butchered of its piano solo.

Just studio versions, but will have to look up the Astoria SB&Ws.
