Why? Because I don't know if I love it or hate it. Is it an inspired blend of post punk guitar, 80s synth pop, glam rock and proggy affectatations, or just a bloody mess? I'm not sure yet.

I love E&tB, particularly McCulloch's habit of wavering between his third notes - e.g. if a song is in C major 7th, he tends to sing the third note as somewhere between a D# and an E - sort of musical fence sitting (is this song predominantly happy or sad?), but all the better for it. The bloke out of Arcade Fire does it too.

Yeah McCulloch is a fucking hero. Hugely underappreciated group IMO. I am falling under the spell after only a few days of owning their stuff.
